One of the southwest's longest running family friendly conventions, right here in Plymouth. SciFi and Fantasy, as well as gaming of all types and genres.

We're not for profit, run by volunteers, raising money for St Luke's hospice. Armadacon is Sci-Fi and Fantasy Convention that's been running in Plymouth since 1988. We aim to offer a friendly convention open to all Sci-Fi and Fantasy fans, whether you like, Doctor Who or Discworld, Star Wars or Anime, Armadacon welcomes you all. Covid-19 & Returning With Confidence
We aim to make ArmadaCon as safe and relaxed as possible. We’ve made changes to enable you to return with confidence. To protect our attendees, we know that you will be willing to follow these guidelines. Pre-Flight
Before you join us, please fulfil the following:

• Have had a negative result on a Lateral Flow Test within the previous 24 hours. We also advise you to:
• Be double vaccinated.
• Show proof of natural immunity shown by a positive PCR test result for COVID-19 following completion of your self-isolation period, if applicable. Testing
If you need it or are unable to test before you arrive, we will have plenty of Lateral Flow test kits available. We also have an experienced Lateral Flow tester on-site to help you through the process. Masks
Based on research and the hotel, Future Inns Plymouth, we would ask all of our attendees to wear a mask in the corridors and common areas. We would encourage the wearing of masks in the convention rooms when moving around. Distancing
We would ask the attendees to be aware of how near you are to other people and avoid crowding, especially at obvious bottlenecks. In the convention rooms, you are welcome to move your chair to give yourself the room to make yourself comfortable. This is as new to us as it is to you and we would welcome any suggestions and feedback to help us improve. Please let us know if you have any special concerns or issues.

Friends, I can't quite believe that in three weeks time we'll on our way to Plymouth for ArmadaCon!
We've got a fantastic line up of wonderful things from pre-con games and socialising from 7pm on Friday 6th and our official programme on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th at the Leonardo Hotel which we're really looking forward to sharing with you.

But because as Barliman Butterbur put it "One thing drives out another" don't forget you'll need a membership

'Appy 'Obbit Day, ev'ryone!

T'day we celebrates the birfdays of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, born on this day in 2890 an' 2968.

'Obbit Day was first celebrated in 1973. Tolkien died on September 2nd that year. It was celebrated ev'ry year, but didn't become an official celebration til 1978, an' some fans fink it should be on a different day, cos of differences between the Gregorian an' Shire calendars (the Shire calendar is about 10 days ahead).

'Allo, ev'ryone! Didyer know that on this day in 1954, Lord of the Flies was published? It was slow to sell at first, an' 'ad an initial print run of about 3000 copies, but by 2015, it'd sold more than 15 million. There 'ave bin three movies based on it - 1963, 1975 an' 1990, an' a TV series came out in February this year. The lad wot plays Jack in the TV series also plays Draco Malfoy in theupcomin' HBO 'Arry Potter series.

'Appiest ov birfdays to actor Nadine Nicole, born on this day in 1983.

She's known for 'er roles as badass Clarissa Mao in blockbuster scifi series The Expanse, and Van in the horror series Dante's Cove. She also 'as a non profit organisation which 'elps people wiv self-improvement an' mindfulness.

Allo, ev'ryone! 'Ere, didyer know that on this day in 1956, IBM unveiled a new disk storage drive for its IBM 305 RAMAC computer?

It stored 3.75MB, weighed a ton (!) an' 'ad to be moved aroun usin' forklifts cos it was so enormous. If it 'ad to be transported anywhere, they used cargo planes.

Int'restin'ly, we still measure disk drive performance by the same standards wot were used back in the 50s.

Didyer know that on this day in 1994, the Space Shuttle Discovery launched from Kennedy Space Centre in Florida? It was Discovery's 19th mission, codename STS-64. There were six in the crew, an' two of 'em (specialists Mark Lee and Carl Meade) did a couple o' spacewalks as part of the mission. Thass 'oo yer can see in the photo.

It was the first flight of Lidar in-Space Technology Experiment, and the first US untethered activity for ten years. Pretty scary stuff, innit? But the photos are awesome.

'Appy birfday ter actor Clare Kramer, born on this day in 1974.

She's bin in a bunch ov films an' tv series, but is prob'ly best known fer 'er role as Glory in Buffy.

She won the 2012 PollyGrind Film Festival Best Actress aware fer 'er portrayal of killer Caitlin Shattuck in the movie Road to Hell. An' did yer know she hosts a podcast (Take Five With Clare Kramer) an' is a co-founder of the platform GeekNation?

'Allo, ev'ryone - juss realised that on this day in 2022, 'The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power' was released. Iss set fousands o' years before the books, an' tells the story o' Middle Earf's Second Age.

It starred Morfydd Clark as the Elf Galadriel, Charlie Vickers as Sauron, an' Owain Arthur as Durin IV. We've 'ad two seasons so far, and a furd is bein' made at the moment. What did you fink of it?

'Ere, on this day in 1946, Warner Bros released a Merrie Melodies cartoon called 'Walky Talky Hawky', wot was the first cartoon to feature Fog'orn Leg'orn.

It was nominated for the Academy Award fer Short Subjects, Cartoons - but lost to a Tom an' Jerry cartoon called The Cat Concerto.
