Covid-19 & Returning With Confidence
We aim to make ArmadaCon as safe and relaxed as possible. We’ve made changes to enable you to return with confidence. To protect our attendees, we know that you will be willing to follow these guidelines. Pre-Flight
Before you join us, please fulfil the following:

• Have had a negative result on a Lateral Flow Test within the previous 24 hours. We also advise you to:
• Be double vaccinated.
• Show proof of natural immunity shown by a positive PCR test result for COVID-19 following completion of your self-isolation period, if applicable. Testing
If you need it or are unable to test before you arrive, we will have plenty of Lateral Flow test kits available. We also have an experienced Lateral Flow tester on-site to help you through the process. Masks
Based on research and the hotel, Future Inns Plymouth, we would ask all of our attendees to wear a mask in the corridors and common areas. We would encourage the wearing of masks in the convention rooms when moving around. Distancing
We would ask the attendees to be aware of how near you are to other people and avoid crowding, especially at obvious bottlenecks. In the convention rooms, you are welcome to move your chair to give yourself the room to make yourself comfortable. This is as new to us as it is to you and we would welcome any suggestions and feedback to help us improve. Please let us know if you have any special concerns or issues.

Dear Friends,
To keep you all in the loop and up to date, this is what has happened and where we currently are with ArmadaCon 2026.

On Monday 17th August we found out that Future Inns in Plymouth had been sold to Premier Inn and later that week received confirmation that they would be closing at the end of September and our booking for November had been cancelled.
(If you have booked accommodation at Future Inns you should have received an email confirming cancellation and received a refund. If you haven't we strongly recommend contacting the hotel, or booking agency you used, directly)

Since then we have been investigating and working on the options available to us.
Our first and preferred course of action is to move to a different venue which will allow ArmadaCon to go ahead on the 6th to the 8th November 2026 as planned, and we are pleased to say that we are in discussion with an alternative location in Plymouth so fingers crossed.
Our fallback, should we find ourselves unable to bring you an in person event this year is to run an on-line event over that weekend instead and transfer your membership to 2027 giving us more time to find a suitable new home for ArmadaCon.

As you can imagine these negotiations are not quick or simple so we please ask for your patience while we work on it. We will let you know as soon as we can and definitely within the next four weeks to give everyone at least six weeks notice to, if all goes as we hope, book accommodation, finalise travel arrangements, and get your costumes and masquerade entries finished in time for a fantastic weekend.

Yours, on behalf of the Committee,
David A Harvey (ArmadaCon Chairbeing)

'ere, don't tell 'Arry an' Ron about this, but did yer know that on this day back in 2020, Japanese company SkyDrive Inc successfully test-piloted their flyin' car?

'Ave a look at the video. It looks a bit like wot yer get if a drone an' a 'elicopter 'ad a baby, an' apparently iss a lot quieter than a 'elicopter, so if yer got anywhere between about £640,000 an' £3 million, yer can 'ave one.

Prob'y wise not ter tell Arfur Weasley 'bout it, too...

We now have confirmation that people who have already booked a room at Future Inns are receiving emails cancelling their bookings. If you have booked a room, and you haven't yet heard from Future Inns Plymouth by the end of the week, it might be worth getting in touch with them.

Attention all hands!
We have been informed today that the venue for ArmadaCon 2026 (the Future Inn Plymouth) will be closing on 25th September and changing to a Premier Inn. The committee is taking a page from Mark Watney, and they are currently working the problem.

In the meantime, we should all take a lesson from Douglas Adams and Don't Panic.

'Ere, didyer know that t'day marks the anniversary o' the 'Ollywood premiere of The Wizard of Oz in 1939? It was screened at Grauman's Chinese Theatre. T'day, I bet there aren't many people 'oo don't know it - the characters an' the sets an' the costumes are instantly recognisable, an' it's become a classic, named as 'The Most Influential Film of All Time' by a study wot was done by the University of Turin.

Although it wasn't the first film wot used colour, it was the way colour was used wot made it so remarkable.

And didyer know that some people behind the scenes felt that Judy Garland shouldn't be singin' in a barn, an' as a result, Over the Rainbow almost got cut? Luckily, it was left in, and won the Academy Award fer Best Song - an' came to be associated so strongly wiv Judy Garland that she made it 'er signature song.

ArmadaCon goers LOVE costumes - wearing them, or seeing others in them. We love costumes so much that we have TWO FLOOR COSTUME COMPETITIONS running over Saturday and Sunday for the costumes we see wandering around the Con.

TWO!!!

To make sure we don't miss any good ones, we're setting up a photo booth area, so if you take a photo there, we can still judge your costume, even if we missed seeing you in person.

There will be two different themes running on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday's theme is 'LOOKING BACK' - so think historical, or perhaps costumes from old movies or TV shows, or anything you interpret as fitting that theme.

You can probably guess what Sunday's theme is! Yes, that's right - 'LOOKING FORWARDS'! Costumes set in the future, perhaps from a TV show no one has seen yet, or the 28th Doctor's costume, or future fashion. We've intentionally kept these themes open to allow your creativity to flow.

We're really looking forward to seeing what you create!

Not got your ticket to ArmadaCon yet? Then get yourself over to the website and register for this year's fun and frolics! https://armadacon.org/registration.php
