πŸ’œ Coffee & Chat – What a great session! β˜•οΈ

We had such a lovely, positive session last Wednesday, with familiar faces and some new ones joining us. It was great to see everyone getting involved in some really open and insightful conversations. πŸ’œ

🧠 We focused on understanding our seizure triggers, including:

β€’ 😴 Lack of sleep
β€’ 😟 Stress
β€’ 🍷 Alcohol
β€’ 🩸 Low blood sugar
β€’ πŸ”„ Hormonal changes, including changes in oestrogen
β€’ πŸ” Poor diet and highly processed foods

We talked about the things we can do to help reduce our triggers and support our overall wellbeing:

✨ Prioritising good-quality sleep
πŸ₯— Eating a balanced diet with plenty of protein, healthy fats, vegetables and fruit
🌿 Spending time outdoors and in nature
πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ Mindfulness and meditation
πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ Gentle, regular exercise
πŸ’œ Finding ways to reduce stress and bring calm to the body

And most importantly, epilepsy does not define us. πŸ’œ

We may have epilepsy, but we are not epilepsy. It is just one part of who we are. It’s important to keep doing the things that make us happy, whilst finding safe ways to enjoy them and taking sensible precautions when needed.

People with epilepsy can β€” and do β€” live happy, active and fulfilling lives. 🌈πŸ’ͺ

We also split into smaller groups for the second part of the session, giving carers the opportunity to chat with other carers and members to share experiences with others living with epilepsy. It worked really well and created a lovely, supportive flow to the afternoon. πŸ’œ

Thank you to everyone who came along and contributed. It was a really positive and insightful session. β˜•οΈπŸ’¬

πŸ’œβ˜• Thank You Sara! β˜•πŸ’œ

A huge thank you to Sara, our Epilepsy Specialist Nurse, for joining us at our monthly meet-up last week. It was a great opportunity for everyone to ask questions, share experiences and receive advice and support. 🌟

We had some really positive discussions around medication, PIP and adapting to life with epilepsy, with plenty of encouragement and understanding shared throughout the afternoon πŸ’œ

Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make it such a welcoming and supportive meeting.

Also a BIG thank you to Sue and Clare, our awesome volunteers. We would be lost without you πŸ™

Our family have been through a lot due to epilepsy. We want the government to change the law so that anyone working in a child or vulnerable adult care setting goes through seizure training as part of their training, before starting the job.

β˜•πŸ’œ Just a reminder that our next Coffee & Chat is taking place next week, on Wednesday 10th June from 12:00pm–2:00pm at Plymouth Unitarian Church (main hall).

We are delighted that Sara, our Epilepsy Nurse, will be joining us for an informal Q&A session. If you have any questions you'd like Sara to answer, please pop them in the comments below. Even if you've asked a question before, feel free to post it again so Sara has a chance to see it beforehand and come prepared.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend this month's meeting due to health reasons, but our wonderful volunteers Clare and Sue will be there to give you all a warm welcome.

Whether you're living with epilepsy, a seizure disorder, supporting a loved one, or simply looking to connect with others who understand, we'd love to see you there.

Have a wonderful meeting everyone!

Best wishes,

Caroline πŸ’œ

What a fantastic day on Saturday for Alana’s Epilepsy Mission first children and families event πŸ’œ

It was a huge success, and we are truly grateful to Alana and her mum Katie for setting up and organising such a lovely, supportive day for children and their families affected by epilepsy and seizure disorders. Hopefully this is the first of many events to come!

A huge thank you to Katie Ann for organising everything and to everyone involved in making the day so special. We look forward to hearing your feedback and will keep you all posted about the next one πŸ’œ

In the meantime, we’ll see you at the next Group meeting on Wednesday 10th June at 12pm at the Plymouth Unitarian Church Plymouth, where Sara, our epilepsy nurse, will be joining us.

Everyone is welcome β€” we look forward to seeing you there πŸ’œ
