A message from our CEO Jamie Gibbs

Remembrance Day for me always hits a bit differently. Like many other veterans, I find the Last Post incredibly moving, sometimes to the point of tears (I’m getting emotional at the thought as I type this). I know I am not the only one that struggles to stand in crowds when the bugle starts. It brings it all home, and for some of us, that’s a lot to carry in public.

That’s why the Civvy St Hub is available today between 10-2pm. If you would prefer to mark the day quietly, have a hot wet (brew), or just sit with people who get it, you are welcome here.

We honour those we lost not only through parades or silence, but through how we live, support each other and also spinning dits about those no longer with us.

We will remember them.

🌍 He did it!

Our incredible CEO, Jamie, has officially climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and is now back home safely, recovering from what has been the challenge of a lifetime.

Standing at a staggering 5,895 metres, Kilimanjaro is the highest free-standing mountain in the world and Africa’s tallest peak.

As Jamie neared the summit, the oxygen levels dropped to around 50% of what we breathe at sea level, making every single step an act of pure determination and grit.

This was not just a climb, it was a test of endurance, courage, and purpose.

We could not be prouder of Jamie for taking on this monumental challenge to raise awareness and vital funds for PL1 Civvy Street.

Every penny raised goes directly towards supporting our veterans, helping them rebuild, reconnect, and thrive after service.

POST FROM OUR CEO

🏔️ The Climb Begins – Mount Kilimanjaro for PL1 Civvy St & Rock2Recovery 🇹🇿

Today we start our Kilimanjaro climb, and it’s already testing us. Heavy rain at the base, snow waiting at the summit, and limited comms from here on out.

I’m doing this for PL1 Civvy Street and Rock 2 Recovery UK, two incredible charities supporting veterans and, in Rock’s case, all blue-light services too.

This morning in Moshi we met locals who make so much from so little, a humbling reminder of resilience and community.

If you’ve been meaning to donate, now’s the time, this may be my last chance to ask before we head into the clouds.

Yesterday our Hub Coordinator Lyanne had the pleasure of catching up with Alun from the Cardiff City Veterans Hub. They first met by chance last year, and it was great to see the connection between our two veterans’ hubs continuing to grow.

While the football result wasn’t what we’d hoped for (a tough 4–0 for Plymouth Argyle) 🙈, the real win was in the friendships and shared support that come from hubs like ours working together.

Alun proudly showed Lyanne their veterans’ garden, which has matured beautifully since her last visit. It was a reminder of how these spaces, just like our community, continue to grow stronger with care and connection.

Always a pleasure to see good pals doing great work 💚
