The Elder Tree

Our purpose is to alleviate loneliness and isolation in the over 50s in Plymouth, improve their physical and mental health and wellbeing, aid their continued independent living and support them to live healthier and active lives. We support over 1650 people over the age of 50 and champion their continued independent living in their own home but we are not a provider of domiciliary or enabling supp

ort. We deliver over 90 innovative health and social engagement activities and are supported by 170 volunteers, many of whom engage with our most vulnerable, frail and socially isolated beneficiaries in their homes. We also support over 200 people who have MCI or dementia related illness.

Update for people who get Pension Credit❗

The Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) are going to start completing more checks to make sure people are getting the correct amount of this benefit.

ℹ️ This means that some Pension Credit claimants will be asked to provide more information about their income or capital, for example by submitting bank statements.

Here’s what you need to know if you receive Pension Credit ⤵

✅ if you are selected for review, it does not mean that you have done anything wrong
⚠️ to stay safe from scammers impersonating the DWP, check that any requests for information are definitely coming from the DWP before sharing any personal or financial details. You can do this by calling the Pension Service directly on 0800 731 0469.

Our operations manager finally spotted one in the wild!

We're extremely thankful to the team at Plymouth City Council's Economic Development team who helped us get some digital advertisments up on the screens in the city.

Have you been lucky enough to see one?

🎉 We're delighted to share that Barbican Theatre has been awarded £20,000 from The National Lottery Community Fund's Awards for All programme!

Thanks to this funding, we've launched our Creative Wellbeing Hub (60+) - a welcoming programme of weekly creative and social sessions designed to help reduce loneliness, improve wellbeing and bring older people together through creativity.

The project has been shaped by research and conversations with older people across Plymouth, ensuring it reflects what our community told us they wanted: a friendly, inclusive space to connect, create and feel part of something.

We can't wait to share more over the coming months and welcome participants to the Hub.

A huge thank you to players for making this possible. 🍀
