The Island Trust We are a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Approved Activity Provider and run open DofE Expedition voyages and DofE Gold Residentials during the school holidays.

Since 1973 The Island Trust has been providing life-enhancing, residential and day-sailing activities for young people with educational support needs, disabilities, and those experiencing hardship and deprivation. To support our charitable work we run RYA Sail Training voyages for independent teenagers during the school holidays, a number of RYA Competent Crew, Day Skipper Practical, and Yachtmast

er Preparation and Exam courses for adults throughout the sailing season, and a small number of sailing expeditions specifically for adults. In addition, anyone aged 18 to 25 can fulfil their DofE Gold Residential on one of our Adult RYA courses throughout the sailing season. We also run several voyages exclusively for home educated students, which follow the same itinerary as our teenage weeks.

We’re taking part in this year’s Eddystone Charity Sailing Pursuit – one of the South West’s biggest fundraising activities! ⛵

On Saturday 13 June 2026, Johanna Lucretia will sail a 26 mile course to the Eddystone Lighthouse and back to raise money so more young people can experience adventure, challenge and discovery through sail training — opportunities that can be truly life-changing.

Why walk for your DofE expedition when you can sail? ⛵

Exploring by sea builds teamwork, confidence, resilience, navigation skills, and unforgettable memories, all while waking up to incredible coastal views instead of muddy boots!

Sailing teaches real adventure, problem-solving, and independence in a way that walking simply can’t match. You could also work towards an RYA qualification such as Start Yachting or Competent Crew.

No previous sailing experience needed.

JOB VACANCY - We are seeking a FIRST MATE for our sail training vessel Moosk in the 2026 season. The job primarily involves assisting the Skipper in the smooth running of Moosk as well as supporting the Skipper in the delivery of RYA courses, such as Competent Crew, Day Skipper Practical and Yachtmaster, as well as youth residential sail training for groups and individuals.
