We are strongly committed to sending humanitarian aid across Europe and supporting resettlement in the UK. We strive to improve the lives of those affected by conflict who have sought asylum and refugee status within the UK. Our charity is about humanitarian aid, sharing information and news about the refugee crisis, sharing news broadcasts and informing others of how to support and helping people to safety, and making sure that as a community in the South West we get aid to where it is needed. We support Attika Human Support in Lesvos and Mobile Refugee Support in France and various other projects in the UK and Europe.

Who we are....

OHOB was initially set up in October 2015 as a Facebook Group called Open Hearts Open Borders – Refugee Aid; this was in response to the current refugee crisis and the tragic media images across our screens. As a group from Plymouth, we started up collections and donation points across the region and now we send 40ft containers and pallets of aid to Greece and France. In Europe we partner with and send aid on a regular basis to Mobile Refugee Support (Dunkirk and Calais), Attika Human Support (Lesvos Greece). We have shipped 8 containers with 4 of those going to our partners in Greece Attika Human Support.

We work with other groups across Devon and Cornwall to continually collect aid to help those who are now living in refugee camps to rebuild their lives. We work closely with a number of other grass root aid groups across the South West including One and All Aid Wadebridge Cornish Refugee Aid Project, Bude Refugee Support Group, Launceston Refugee Support, Exeter City of Sanctuary Ottery Refugee Response Group and Beyond Borders Totnes to collect aid and get it to where it is needed.

Our main ethos and premise is to support those who have been limited by social and economic status, ill health, circumstance, conflict or displacement. The overall aim of OHOB is to provide essential items and assistance such as food, clothing, toiletries, locally for those in need and globally via humanitarian aid relief.

Through fundraising, grants, community collections and donations points across the South West OHOB receives, collects and sends containers and pallets of humanitarian aid to Greece and vans of aid to France. We give to local women’s projects, homeless charities and individuals in need. We take requests for aid and do our best to provide support where we can.

OHOB supports the homeless and the resettlement of refugees and asylum seekers in the South West of England through accessing much needed household items, white goods and furniture, clothing and essential food, hygiene or baby items, as well as fundraising for specifically requested items. We also support local homeless projects, young peoples projects and womens projects with essential items of food, clothing and baby items.

As, an organisation, we continually develop ways to sustainably benefit the community by promoting real and lasting integration with our projects and community events. To achieve our aims, we will hold events to raise awareness and promote our work across schools, colleges, universities and communities and at conferences. We work and volunteer under the premise of kindness and giving back to the world.

OHOB is becoming a real focus for creating change through the kindness of a network of volunteers and supporters ranging from individuals and families to South West businesses, church groups, refugees, clubs and associations, charities and community groups. One of our main partners and supporters is QStore Business Centre in Saltash Cornwall PL12 6LX.

We intend to:

Continue with distributing international humanitarian aid relief across Europe.

Support other grass root aid relief groups across France and Greece by providing essential aid items or financial support.

Ensure those who are fleeing conflict and dispersed to Plymouth and the South West feel welcome and safe.

Provide essential items to refugees and asylum seekers’ families and individuals who resettle in the South West of England.

Campaign for the safe passage of child refugees to the UK from areas of conflict.

Educate and raise awareness through our fundraising and campaigning across social media.

Promote integration, inclusion, kindness, diversity in all that we do.
