STANDING TOGETHER FOR LIFE: CHANGING THE NARRATIVE ON SU***DE
Every year on September 10th, communities around the world come together to observe World Su***de Prevention Day (WSPD), a day dedicated to raising awareness, fostering hope, and promoting action to prevent su***de. In 2025, we continue with the powerful theme set by the International Association for Su***de Prevention (IASP): “Changing the Narrative on Su***de.”
This theme invites us to shift from silence and stigma to openness, empathy, and support. It’s a call to challenge misconceptions, listen deeply, and create spaces where people feel safe to speak and seek help.
🟡 Why This Matters
Su***de remains a major public health concern, with over 720,000 lives lost globally each year. Behind every statistic is a person, a family, a community. The ripple effects are profound and long-lasting. At Livewell Southwest, we believe that prevention starts with education, compassion, and connection.
🟢 Our Role as a Training Provider
As a provider of mental health and wellbeing training, we are uniquely positioned to empower individuals and organisations with the tools to make a difference. Through courses like Mental Health First Aid, Su***de intervention training, Safetalk, Asist, Ligature Awareness and many Resilience workshops, we help people:
• Recognise the signs of distress
• Respond with empathy and confidence
• Connect individuals to appropriate support
Training is not just about knowledge, it’s about building a culture of care.
🔵 Changing the Narrative
To truly change the narrative on su***de, we must:
• Speak openly about mental health and su***de
• Listen without judgment to those who are struggling
• Share stories of hope and recovery
• Challenge stigma wherever it exists
This year’s theme reminds us that every conversation matters. Whether it’s checking in on a colleague, attending a training session, or simply being present for someone in need, your actions can save lives.
