David Salter an active Plymouth Quaker attendee, is involved in organising a Ukrainian Cultural Experience which we would like to share with you:

The University of Plymouth is honoured to work with our local Ukrainian Space Plymouth community group and other friends to highlight these gems of culture. Please join us on 24 February from 6:00 p.m. in the Roland Levinsky building for a marvellous evening. Entry is free and Ukrainian-themed refreshments will be provided. Translated into English will be Ukrainian poetry, including some written recently by internationally acclaimed soldier-poets Yaryna Chornohuz and Artur Dron’. There will be a contemporary Ukrainian film, and music by The Ukrainian Singers of Plymouth, who have performed to full audiences at the Barbican Theatre in Plymouth, the Cygnet Theatre in Exeter, and the Flavel Theatre in Dartmouth. And there will be a big display of Ukrainian paintings, drawings and photography by Ukrainian artists.

The Quaker Approach to Obstacles

The Stoic philosophy of Marcus Aurelius—"What stands in the way becomes the way"—finds resonance in the Quaker tradition, offering a lesson in sustaining relationships.

For a Quaker, the obstacle isn't a dead end, but a prompt to turn inward and seek the Inner Light (divine guidance).

When a seemingly insurmountable challenge arises:

- Impediment to Action becomes an opportunity to pause and reflect on Integrity and Truth.
- The block forces a commitment to finding a solution aligned with the Testimonies (I.e., truth, simplicity, peace, sustainability and equality).

In this view, the difficulty itself forges character and leads to a more faithful, sustainable, truthful and peaceful path forward. Resilience isn't about bouncing back; it's allowing the difficulty to redefine the way.

Join us on Sundays, at 11:00, as we find the way in community.
