Volunteer Spotlight: Alisha

Alisha volunteers to give back to the local community and support children and families with encouragement and opportunities.

One of her favourite moments was taking a newly qualified apprentice into a school to share his journey, helping young people understand the different paths available to them. She also loved her day volunteering at the Prom Cellar, seeing students find their prom outfits and feeling proud to play a small part in that moment.

Alisha's advice? Get involved. There are roles for everyone, you might be helping at events, supporting activities, or doing something totally different.

We’re incredibly proud to share that Quinn, one of our amazing volunteers at Millfields Inspired, has been nominated for YMCA Plymouth Youth Awards and has been selected as a finalist!🎉

Quinn has been giving her time, energy, and care to support others and help bring our projects to life. Alongside volunteering, Quinn has also played a key role in our Prom Cellar helping us showcase the service and inspire young people to feel confident and celebrated.

Beyond modelling the latest donations, Quinn is a huge part of running Prom Cellar, from helping young people find their perfect prom outfit, to carefully sorting donations, checking quality, and keeping our stock organised and welcoming for everyone who visits.

Her dedication, attention to detail, and genuine kindness perfectly reflect the values we stand for, community, inclusivity, and making a real difference.

Being recognised as a finalist is such a well deserved achievement, and we couldn’t be more delighted to celebrate this moment.

A huge thank you to Jack for volunteering this evening and helping young people find the perfect outfit for their special night. By offering dresses and suits for just £20, we're helping ensure that every student can feel confident, included, and excited for prom.

he's helped support some truly unforgettable experiences, including a tour of a former nuclear submarine and an aquarium behind-the-scenes visit opportunities students wouldn’t have had without Millfields.

Sam says volunteering is incredibly rewarding and you don’t need to be an expert, even small contributions can make a huge difference.

Donations Needed!

Since the opening of our new charity shop, ReStore, in Stoke Village at the end of 2025, it has been a huge success and has really hit the ground running. Thank you to the local community for such a warm welcome into the village. The donations we receive every week are so greatly appreciated.💙

This week, we’re celebrating the incredible people who make Millfields Inspired what it is 💫

As a small charity, we rely on our amazing volunteers to help us deliver projects, support families, and create opportunities for children and young people across our community.

From helping at events and organising spaces, to supporting activities and inspiring young people, every single contribution makes a difference.

As a small charity with fewer than two full-time members of staff, we rely heavily on our volunteers to help us deliver our projects and support our community in so many different ways.

🌟 Widening Horizons 🌟

What a fantastic morning out for St Joseph's Catholic Primary School Year 5 class! The kids had an amazing time visiting the Crowne Plaza Plymouth as part of the Widening Horizons programme. They got a real behind the scenes look at how a big hotel runs, exploring everything from housekeeping and events management to catering, leisure, and reception. A massive thank you to Sandra for giving up her time once again to show the children around. She did a wonderful job answering their questions and definitely sparked some excitement about future careers in hospitality!

We love seeing Widening Horizons in action!

A huge thank you to EE for creating such an engaging opportunity for Year 5 pupils to explore the world of work firsthand.

From discovering future career pathways to learning about apprenticeships and workplace culture, experiences like these help children connect their ambitions with real possibilities. Hearing pupils already talk about future applications shows just how powerful early employer engagement can be.

At Millfields Inspired, we are passionate about widening horizons, raising aspirations, and helping every young person see the opportunities available to them. Brilliant to see such enthusiasm and curiosity from the students involved! 🌟
