It’s October, so you know what that means! EGM season is UPON US!

This gives you the chance to join our wonderful committee and see what makes SwitchUP tick!

The EGM is on Saturday 24th October in Rolle 101 at 2pm.
We will be running our society-favorite team strategy game ‘King of the Castle’ after the conclusion of the EGM, and we’ll also be heading to Caffeine Club afterwards, so even if you’re not running, there is an incentive to come along and vote!

The positions that are available for you to run for are...

-Kit Manager
-Events Social Secretary
-Joint Social Secretary
(Events and Joint Social Sec can also be combined into the role of Social Secretary.)
-Esports Representative
-Any Trainee Role for any Committee position

For anyone new to the society, to run in the EGM, you will need to prepare an elevator-pitch style powerpoint, explaining who you are, why you want the position you’re running for and what makes you fit for that role. This should be about 5 minutes long. You can also run on the day without a powerpoint if you change your mind last-minute, but you’ll need the factors listed above in your head when you step up to the plate!

Come along and take part in our Year Long Tournament League! We have a variety of tournaments spaced out across the year of some of our most niche and most popular games. The higher you rank, the more points you’ll gain, but even just joining in for the sake of it will get you points towards the Grand Finals- a showdown of players with the highest points from across the year! Consistency is key here, so show up and show off! Good luck!

Friday: Welcome to round 1 of our YEAR LONG TOURNAMENT LEAGUE!! Our first round will be Mario Kart World. The year long tournament league is a tournament where you accrue points over multiple tournaments in various games to play in a big final at the end of the year - with great prizes to be won throughout! A normal switch session will run alongside the tournament so casuals feel free to join still!

Tournament heats start at 6pm so be there nice and early! Signups for tournaments to be found in our LinkTree.

Saturday: Introducing: The Switchup StudyUP! Even though the year has just started, it is a great habit to study early and frequently- therefore we have decided to host study sessions where you can join committee and other members of the society to sit down and study without distractions, loneliness or boredom. Come join us this Saturday for some IRL Brian Training and ace your next assignment!

Friday: Step back in time for our Retro Nights! We provide a number of consoles, including but not limited to the Wii, PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, and Wii U. Lots of us will be bringing DS’s too! We will also be providing a number of games, including guitar hero and its drumkit, guitars and microphones, as well as all the Wii classics, from Wii Sports to Wii Party to Super Smash Bros.

Saturday: We will be hosting Pokémon sessions once a term THIS Saturday (this may be subject to change depending on demand). We will run small, friendly tournaments primarily on the online battle simulator “Pokémon Showdown” which features a wide range of battle formats to choose from, the main ones we will focus on are: Random Singles and Doubles, Little cup, Monotype, Metronome etc. (this may again be subject to change depending on demand).

What's this? Details on the SwitchUP! hangout dates? How amazing!

See all our confirmed dates and events for Term 1 of the 2026-2027 academic year! From switch sessions, tournaments, retro nights and special events; we have a lot in store for our members new and old so we hope to see you there!

Please note that events/times/dates are subject to change, exact details to be confirmed and membership will be required for the latter half of October, dates to be confirmed. In this taster session SwitchUP will be bringing all of its consoles to give you a taste of what we have to offer! This typically includes but isn’t limited to Switches (1+2), Wiis, GameCubes, and Wii Us. We also do a lot more than providing consoles every Friday: we organise teams for NSE and Cross-Uni tournaments; run monthly-ish tournaments (3 per term) in separate rooms during Friday hangouts; host craft events for special occasions like Halloween and Valentines; organise joint socials with a range of societies so other students can give gaming a go and our members can try out and learn new skills; prepare special one off outings like Animal Crossing Aquarium Bingo, gaming conventions, bonfire night, TWIST (board game cafe), cinema visits and more; plan one off events on campus like Nintendo themed D&D, quizzes and tournaments; and organise other fun socials around Plymouth including pub socials (SwitchUP does not endorse drinking). So even if this taster isn’t quite what you’re looking for, there are plenty of other events SwitchUP organises that you can get involved in!

The freshers fair is back once again this Thursday! And you can come find SwitchUP! there! We will be hosting "Drunk" Mario Kart World time trials (with prizes ofc), handing out stickers, sweets and keychains for the participants. Most importantly, some of the committee will be there to ask any questions and quell any concerns about joining SwitchUP!
