What a fantastic effort by our volunteer Tree Wardens yesterday!

12 Tree Wardens came out to help local volunteers at Radford Park and Arboretum. We were also joined by Jack and Callum from Babcock.

Around 30 trees were mulched and quite a few needed stakes and guards sorting out. The Radford volunteers even managed to plant 2 new trees.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and thanks to the PCC team for delivering the woodchip!

Many of the trees we were helping out we planted with the support of the Plymouth and South Devon Community Forest.

If you live on the Hoe or regularly visit the parks in West Hoe we want to know what you think!

Plymouth Tree People have had a look at Millbay Park and Radford Road Park (the one with the tennis courts) and we think there are a few spaces where new trees could be planted. We'd like to hear from residents and park users, to find out what you think of our draft plans.

Last week, a group of our wonderful volunteer Tree Wardens did some tree care in Herbert St play park and around the flats on St Leo Place/Keyham Road.

It was a lovely and productive session with all trees mulched and given a once over. Some needed the ties tightening up, some a bit of pruning and thanks to Lynne they were all surveyed! We also picked up loads of rubbish.

All the trees we planted last year outside the flats are looking fantastic, largely down to our amazing tree waterers at Miller's Cleaning Specialists, funded by the Plymouth and South Devon Community Forest 👏

Sadly, the little oak in Herbert St play park which we asked for help watering this summer, has died. It has been badly vandalised and we don't know if this was done after it died from drought stress or it died as a result of the damage. We have removed what was left.

Over half our trees have now been surveyed but we want to get them all done within the next month. If you think you'd like to help, get in touch!

In order to better understand how our trees are doing and to make sure we are managing them well, this year we have launched a fantastic new tree survey scheme!

Our volunteer Tree Wardens and regular tree planting volunteers were invited to have a go with the new system, and it's already proving to be very useful!

All of the roughly 250 trees we have planted in the last 5 years are on the system, and we hope that they will also be surveyed before the end of October. 

Our fantastic volunteers are noting down how well the tree is looking and whether it has anything going on which needs addressing, such as wobbly tree stakes or ties which are too tight.

Last weekend, Plymouth Tree People welcomed 7 potential new Tree Wardens along to see what it is that we do!

It was a productive and enjoyable morning where we explained to our new volunteers about the Tree Warden scheme and carried out some basic tree maintenance.

Quite a few trees in Patna Park, in Stonehouse, needed some attention, with some having stakes removed, a few were pruned and everything got a good mulch with woodchip.

Thank you to everyone who came along, it was a lovely session, and thanks to the team from Plymouth City Council for dropping us off the much needed woodchip!

We did it!

A huge thank you to everyone who donated to our crowd funder!

The maple in Sir John Hawkins Square has had a ridiculously thick slab of tarmac removed from around it, so now it has a bit more room to breathe and access to rainwater.

We think it looks wonderful and a big thank you to the guys from Glendale for all their help and for doing such a brilliant job.

Hopefully, we haven't just helped one tree, but encouraged whoever it is who makes decisions on surfacing our urban areas to think about how it impacts on our precious trees, which are so important for our health, wildlife and making the places much nicer.
