Easter is a celebration of rebirth. My hope this Easter Monday is renewed by remarkable young people who are working to make the world kinder, fairer, and more humane. Helen Ebrahimi is a powerful example of that spirit.

Helen is a medical student at the University of Plymouth whose achievements, both academic and beyond the classroom, are truly exceptional. In the face of significant challenges, she has shown outstanding resilience, determination, and grace. She was awarded the Doc Martin Award for achieving the highest academic mark in her foundation year, while also dedicating herself to causes that serve some of the most vulnerable in our society.

Through her work with Student Action for Refugees (STAR) Plymouth, Refugee Education UK, and wider educational and student initiatives, Helen has used her gifts not simply to succeed personally, but to strengthen the lives, dignity, and opportunities of others, especially those who need encouragement, protection, and a fairer chance to flourish.

What makes Helen so inspiring is not only the scale of what she has achieved, but the spirit in which she has achieved it. She reminds us that education and medicine are at their best when they are guided by goodwill, compassion, and service. In that sense, her example speaks deeply to the Easter message: that renewal is real, that hope can rise again, and that a better future for humankind is still possible.

A new 𝟯-𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼 now captures the heart of the 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗴𝗲 project — and we would love you to be part of it.

𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗴𝗲 is a free global initiative bringing people of all ages together to design and deliver wellbeing projects through 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽. Open to anyone, anywhere in the world, it will also introduce a unique reward system recognising both the number of lives touched and the depth of positive impact.

As we prepare for our official launch on 𝟭 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, to mark the 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗢𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀, we are now inviting 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗷𝗼𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽.

This is an opportunity to help shape something hopeful, inclusive, and internationally relevant from the very beginning.

On this Good Friday, I’ve felt especially moved by the compassion and generosity shown by our University of Plymouth students and the local community.

Members of Student Action for Refugees (STAR Plymouth) and the Plymouth Occupational Therapy Society came together to raise funds and gift 14 sleeping bags for people who are displaced and most in need, through START - Students and Refugees Together.

A powerful reminder that even in difficult times, hope and kindness continue to shine through. 🙏❤

But in a world that can feel divided, we’re choosing hope.

We’re building a global, intergenerational movement for wellbeing—open to everyone, everywhere, completely free. A space where people of all ages can come together, connect, and create something better.

Think we’ve been a bit quiet? Sadly FareShare South West fell victim to a cyberattack and we lost our old page. For a local community-focused charity like ours, it’s devastating: years of stories gone and one of our favourite ways to keep in touch gone with it - and the timing is especially miserable with our big winter fundraising campaign just around the corner.

We post stories about food, volunteering and the incredible work of the network of charities and community hubs we work with all across the south west. Last year we rescued 1,830 tonnes of food from the food industry which would otherwise have gone to waste – enough food for 4.3 million meals, reaching over 42,000 people. We can only do it with support from people like you.
