We are delighted to share the exciting news that our application to the EMPOWER Dementia Network + for their Small Research Grant Fund has been successful! 🎉

Together with University of Hull, Ronald Amanze, RVF Academy and biggerhouse film, we will be delivering our project:

"Seen and heard": The role of sound and moving image to connect people with dementia within, outwards and across generations.

Slowing down and taking notice | A photowalk with The Photobook Project
____________________________

This morning we had the joy of bringing together a beautiful bunch of Cornwall-based creatives to walk and document along one of the clay trails near St Austell.

Our project was initially developed with a local dementia-friendly walking group titled The Happy Wanderers in 2015, a group led by national charity . Together we walked in the footsteps of The Happy Wanderers, documenting as we went, and collected found objects to capture the essence of the place and shared experience.

Here are some of the images of the group’s book, intervowen with images from today. We can’t wait to see what photographs were taken and to share with you soon ✨

Over the summer, we’ve had the privilege of working with members of Activities 115 in Kingsbridge, documenting their experiences in nature around their town under themes of their chosen. From dogs and birds to bright colours and flowers to histories and stories, the group have had lots of fun spending time together in the sunshine!

We’ve also created beautiful cyanotypes, paintings, texture rubbings and a group poem:

“We have been meeting in Kingsbridge,
Taking photos together
Walking, collaging, painting and collecting
In the beautiful, sunny weather
We have seen dogs, flowers, caterpillars and birds,
Passing around the camera, taking it in turns
Looking up to the hanging baskets, and down at our feet
It’s amazing all the people that you meet
We’ve felt happy, excited and a sense of joy”

We had a wonderful time recently going along to the Budding Friends 10 year celebration! It was brilliant to see the group members and volunteers who we’d worked with in 2023-24, and we couldn’t believe the cake 😍

It was amazing to hear about the project which has brought together organisations from England, Scotland and Northern Ireland to set quality standards for intergenerational practice.

♟ LET'S PLAY! 🎲

Earlier this month, we brought together the Core Youth Group and Saltash Memory Cafe to celebrate our 26th project, Let's Play!

Over three sessions, the two groups have been meeting up to share their favourite board games and capturing their time together on disposable cameras. This resulted in a brilliant exhibition of photos from the sessions. Thank you to the Mayor and the local paper for joining us for the celebration.

We are excited to welcome Ellen Love as our fourth Director!👋

For the last 10 years, Ellen has worked in museums, galleries and heritage settings and is the Learning and Participation Manager at the Leach Pottery in St Ives, Cornwall. Through partnerships with a range of charities and organisations, from prisons to schools, she uses arts and heritage as a part of rehabilitation, community building and care. Ellen enjoys responding to museum collections and working with forms of co-production and collaboration.

Ellen says:
“The Photobook Project gently walks the line between fostering impactful connections in communities while creating beautiful outcomes. The core intent of the project is important, establishing connection and empowerment for people with dementia and their communities. It achieves this through joyous and simple methods, at times rotating the expected dynamics of engagement. I'm so happy to be part of the project and look forward to seeing the Photobook Project continue to prove its value and charm for all who take part.”
