The following text is a comment added to a post in Basildon Memories regarding dwellings in Basildon Borough with the name of ‘The Haven’………….
The Haven at Gun Hill, Bowers Gifford, shown in this post’s original photo selection with a thatched roof is obviously very old.
The current building at this location is also named The Haven but appears to be less than 20 years old.
The image attached to this comment shows extracts from maps dating back to 1895. (With the building location identified with a green-coloured X on each map.)
The footprint of the building on the 1895 map appears to match the size and shape of the thatched roof building in the original post photo.
However, the other map extracts 1955 / 1967 / 2026 show buildings with a different footprint.
It is likely that the building layout has been changed a number of times over the years but it may have always been known as The Haven.
