Blà Bheinn at sunrise is leaving us breathless 🌅

The John Muir Trust is dedicated to protecting and enhancing wild places, like our land on southern Skye, for the benefit of all.

This beautiful video was taken by Charlie, a driver from D & J Campbell who spent the night on Skye and used the opportunity to make his way up Blà Bheinn before sunrise.

Owl caught on camera at Glenlude 🦉

Since 2003, we’ve been working to restore this 149-hectare site in the Southern Uplands. Every tree planted, every hedge woven from felled conifers, and every wildlife survey is part of a 20-year vision to let nature thrive.

Misty days and creepy crawlies from earlier in the year at Knoydart☁️ Can you name the insect in the first image? 🐛

As the trees have regenerated on Knoydart, native wildlife has began to return, including pine martens, otters, foxes, water voles, buzzards and different types of eagle among many others. We expect to see more biodiversity as the woodland continues to expand.

Guess the wild place 👀

The Trust cares for around 1,255 hectares of ancient woodland and peaks in this area and it is home to wildlife such as otters and eagles, with some of the most dramatic and remote landscapes you can explore. 🦅

We've seen the natural regeneration of birch, oak, hazel, rowan, Scots pine and other tree species in this regeneration since we purchased this land in 1987.

We recently welcomed students from UHI’s Countryside Skills with Ranger Training course to Nevis, where they joined our team there for a few days of practical conservation work and learned about the Trust's approaches to land use and habitat management.

The students got stuck in with some essential monitoring of our marked seedlings and dwarf heath plots, assessing levels of browsing and tree regeneration.

This work gets carried out each year and helps support our herbivore management and wider work within the Nevis Landscape Partnership

Schiehallion is one of Scotland’s most popular Munros. Its Gaelic name, Sìdh Chailleann, translates to ‘Fairy Hill of the Caledonians’.

A tale passed from generation to generation might just explain how Schiehallion got this magical reputation… ✨

One summer evening, a man from Braes of Foss began making his way west to visit his friend. As the weather was so pleasant, he chose to take the scenic route and appreciate the views that the mountain offered over Kinloch Rannoch. The journey was, for the most part, uneventful, until the man came across a cave. Inside that cave, he heard singing. Curious, and ignoring every fairy story he had ever been told, he ventured inside...
