It's less than a month until bonfire night - have you made plans yet?

🚫 Stop – do you need to have a bonfire this year? The fewer bonfires there are, the fewer wildlife casualties there are too.

🫳 Move - if you do decide to have a bonfire, always build it on the day you plan to light it. Move all accumulated materials to a new clear site as hedgehogs & other wildlife or pets may be hiding inside.

🔦 Check - before lighting from one side, check the entire bonfire pile carefully for wildlife & pets.

STOP. MOVE. CHECK! ⬇️

Pleased to say this hedgehog has stuck around and it looks like it's taken up residence in one of the sleeping boxes. I'll start gathering up leaves for it to take in the box now I know it's around.

It's been far too long since I saw a hedgehog, going on three months now. The ground has been so hard and dry I feared the worst that the drought had effected them badly. I was still putting out food and water every day, just in case, and all I was getting were cats and the occsasional mouse.
I was relieved to see on the camera last night one had made it back to the garden, lets hope there are more to follow!
