Two hedgehogs out last night just before it got dark. We don't get too much dark at this time of year so it's possible to see them at dusk and dawn.

This is normal mating behaviour. The male circles the female until she eventually gives up or manages to run away. This is one of the reasons people say hedgehogs make a lot of noise! She is hissing at him, warning him to leave her alone. Males can travel miles looking for females.

Bobbin was rescued at Halloween last year and taken to Pickering Hedgehog Rescue. He was underweight and was very sick with internal parasites. He was treated for the parasites and because of his size he spent the winter at the rescue.

Remember to check for wildlife if you're tidying the garden this weekend!

Leave grass unmown – but if you must mow, always leave a corner or edge untouched. Check carefully for & other wildlife before you start work, then cut it initially to about a foot tall. Check again before cutting any shorter!
