🌿 Petersfield is Blooming — and Looking Beautifully Tidy! 🌿
Our wonderful WI Gardening Group is making fantastic progress in keeping Petersfield looking its very best. Week by week, our team of enthusiastic volunteers is getting stuck in, tackling weeds, clearing litter, tidying borders, cutting back overgrowth and giving our town’s green spaces some much-needed TLC.
Donning their high-vis jackets and sturdy gardening gloves, and armed with secateurs, trowels and plenty of enthusiasm, they certainly aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty! From clearing accumulated rubbish to uncovering areas hidden beneath brambles and weeds, they are giving our planting areas a real refresh.
Expertly guided by Helene, the team approaches every task with energy, good humour and a wonderful sense of purpose. They’re carefully working around established planting, encouraging healthy growth and giving shrubs and perennials the space they need to thrive.
And it’s not just about keeping things tidy. The team is also introducing new perennial planting, with a focus on caring for the soil, choosing plants that benefit insects and following the principle of “right plant, right place”. The aim is to create year-round interest and beauty — for both the human and non-human residents and visitors of Petersfield. 🌱🐝🦋
There’s always a surprising amount of litter lurking beneath the foliage too — bottles, cans, wrappers and all manner of forgotten debris! Our gardeners are determined to leave each area cleaner, tidier and more welcoming than they found it.
Working in partnership with East Hampshire District Council, Norse and The Petersfield Society, the group is currently focusing on EHDC-owned land in the heart of Petersfield. It’s a great example of what can happen when local organisations and volunteers work together to care for our town.
It’s hard work, but the results are beginning to speak for themselves. 🌿 The difference a little weeding, pruning, planting and good old-fashioned elbow grease can make is remarkable.
