This week is Volunteers Week, and it is the perfect opportunity for us to say a great big THANK YOU to our wonderful team!

More than 100 people have given their time to PeCAN in all sorts of ways: helping at stalls, organising and attending events, joining working groups, taking practical action for nature, sharing ideas, and supporting our campaigns and projects.

Whether you volunteer regularly, help out occasionally, or simply turn up when you can, every contribution matters. The time, skills and energy you give help us achieve far more than we ever could alone. To all of our volunteers, past and present, thank you. We are incredibly grateful for everything you do.

Please join us on Thursday 16th July for our Summer Social from 7pm at The Townhouse. And come along when you can, to our weekly Tuesday morning Eco Cafe or last Wednesday of the month PeCAN at the Pub and Volunteers Evenings. More here: petersfieldcan.org/events

Our biggest event, the biennial Eco Fair, is coming up on Sunday 12th July - if you can help out please email us: [email protected] ๐Ÿ™

Next Tuesday 9th June, as part of Great Big Green Week, we invite you to join us for a special extended Eco Cafe - focussing on home energy.

Drop in to the Perry Room at Winton House whenever you like between 10.30am and 1pm to speak to PeCAN's energy adviser Neil, and some of our Energy Champions too. Bring your questions and queries about all things home energy related.

Thinking about solar panels but not sure where to start? Seen an advert for heat pumps but still have questions? Weโ€™re here to help. Being energy efficient isnโ€™t just about saving money - itโ€™s about making your home more comfortable, and ready for the future.

Chat with volunteers who have personal experience of renewable energy installations in their homes. Find out what's available to you, including grants and funding opportunities. Share your experiences and enjoy a relaxed and friendly atmosphere with unbiased, pressure-free advice - plus free tea and coffee!

Have you heard them joyously screaming overhead?

In celebration of both World Swift Day and Great Big Green Week, we hope you will join us to find out more about swifts and how we can help support them here in Petersfield. Request a swift box from the charity Hampshire Swifts, and become part of Petersfield's Swift Streets initiative.

Bring the whole family and enjoy crafty activities for the children, as well as welcome refreshments!

Come along to St Peter's Church this Saturday 6th June between 10.30am and midday.

Rushmere Farm exists to demonstrate that organic farming can be productive, profitable and regenerative at the same time.

They farm in the South Downs National Park, taking a long-term view. Their aim is to grow high-quality, nutrient-dense food while rebuilding soil, increasing biodiversity and storing carbon. Their land is farmed not just for yield, but for lasting ecological and human health.

They believe organic farming is not a niche alternative. It is a serious, commercially viable model capable of feeding people well while restoring the natural systems that agriculture depends on.

This visit costs ยฃ20 per attendee, payable via Rushmere Farm's website: https://rushmerefarm.com/products/tour-organic-farm?variant=42436760207545 - where you can also find out more about the experience.

Please also email Eco Rother Action ([email protected]) so that they know how many are attending.

Meet at The Cattleyard, Pit Hill Lane, Hambledon, PO7 4SG.

Join us at Petersfield Eco Cafe each Tuesday from 11am-midday in the Perry Room at Winton House, if you can ๐ŸŒŽ

Chat with other like-minded and friendly people about all things climate related, find out what PeCAN are doing, and meet representatives of other local climate action groups. A great place to find out what's going on locally, and share your ideas and concerns.

You can buy hot drinks and cake from the cafe in Winton House, or use our supplies for a small donation to PeCAN. Access is either through the main building and out the back door to the building behind, or through the side gate. We hope to see you there! ๐Ÿ’š

If you can't join us during the working day you might be interested in coming along to our monthly PeCAN at the Pub / Volunteers Evenings instead. These are on the last Wednesday of the month, from 7pm at The Folly - the next is a relaxed social on Wednesday 24th June.

Last Thursday, our showing of the People's Emergency Briefing saw a packed Studio at The Petersfield School (TPS).

The film summarised and shockingly illustrated the findings of an original event that took place last November, The National Emergency Briefing (NEB), a high-level, non-partisan event that was delivered in central London. Eight world-leading experts gave an unfiltered and concise assessment of the latest science - where we are, where we are heading, and what we can do, in a single authoritative account.

The panel of speakers was ably chaired by Sian Maceod, with her background in the diplomatic service, and comprised Petersfield's MP, Damian Hinds, Aimee Felus, CE of the Western Sussex Rivers Trust, and Paul Turner, Education Lead for the Ministry of Eco Education.

Please read our blog post to find out more about the film, the evidence presented, and what was discussed afterwards, here: petersfieldcan.org/news-blog/2026/05/our-screening-of-the-peoples-emergency-briefing

Merritts Meadow Nature Reserve will host a Nature Day tomorrow, 30th May 10am-1pm, in partnership with the Hampshire & IOW Wildlife Trust.

The aim is to properly observe and record the wildlife present, with experts on hand to help. HIWWT Wilder Communities Officer Steve Bolton will lead a Nature Discovery Walk, there will be a butterfly and bug hunt using a sweep-net and children's nets, and nature reserve trustee Melanie Oxley will lead a grassland and wildflower survey.

All are welcome (take a picnic lunch if you like!) but to give an idea of numbers please email [email protected] if you plan to attend. Meet on foot at the top of North Road (GU32 2AX) where you will be directed to the activities. Please note there is no parking available.

Make a day of it and head over to Petersfield Repair Cafe at the Avenue Pavilion afterwards! Take a broken item and see if the volunteer repairers can help you. Enjoy tea and cakes from the WI, too. 1.30-3.30pm ๐Ÿชก
