FitzRoy - Transforming Lives

FitzRoy transforms the lives of people with learning disabilities, helping them live more independently at home and in the community.

FitzRoy offers a wide range of services to support adults with learning disabilities. Our creative and flexible approach means we are able to work with people who need different levels of support - from a few hours a week to shop or access community activities - though to 24 hour support and nursing care.

We were proud to join Fatima Whitbread MBE and The Hospital Saturday Fund at the HSF AGM this week.

Fatima shared her powerful personal story and spoke movingly about the gaps vulnerable people can fall through, and the difference it makes when organisations work together to close them.

We are hugely grateful to HSF for their generous £12k donation towards the next phase of FitzRoy’s cuckooing and crime prevention work with KeyRing.

This funding will help us develop specialist training and support to tackle gang coercion and cuckooing of people with learning disabilities and autism.

Nicola's idea to grow sunflowers to brighten up the outdoor space at two of our Nottingham supported living homes has quickly turned into a bit of friendly competition 🌻

Nicola said: "Our outdoor space is quite limited and underused, so I'd been thinking about how we could make the most of it. Nothing too adventurous, just making the garden a nicer spot where people could enjoy sitting outside.

"Everyone has planted their own sunflower and since then, people have just got into the habit of checking them and there’s been a bit of competition about whose is growing the fastest."

Best of luck to Caitlin running the London Marathon on Sunday! 🏃‍♀️

Caitlin joined FitzRoy when she was 22, looking for a flexible job to fit around university. Now, nearly 25, she’s still here and loving it!

Caitlin said: "The people we support are my main motivation. Everything we do here is for them and they’re the reason I signed up for this in the first place. They’re all so inspirational, so funny and all just completely their own person, so it’s just really nice to be able to go that extra mile to do something for them."
