At last, our Close season has ended and today 1st June 2026 marks the start of our new season.

It was fantastic to start the season with numerous Roach, Perch, Bream and Tench. I was hoping to land one of our Crucian, sadly not one came to the net. But small Tench up to 3lb were superb sport on light tackle.

Cannot wait for my next trip.

Just a reminder that our season re-opens 1st June 2026. I cannot wait to cast a line. The Tench and Crucian have been prolific at the start of the year. Good luck to all and tight lines!

Visiting the pond last Friday, I was dissapointingly met with around 10 youths all clearly poaching. Also, a car was parked outside our access gate in front of numerous signs saying NO PARKING!

Non -the-less, speaking to a group of lads they seemed to be catching Rudd. I spoke to them about the introduction of Crucian over the past couple of years and low and behold the rod bent over and he was into one of the prized Crucian. It was a corker! The picture does'nt show it's relative size, but they are definatley growing well.

Also this is the FINAL CALL for memebrship, I will not be posting anymore about this. You have until Thurday 30th April 2026 to join. To all our club members. The lock on our access gate has now been changed from the key to a coded padlock.

For those who have joined already this year, you will be contacted in due course by the Council with the information you provided when you joined.

To all new prospective memebers, you will be given this code when you join by attending in person at Reception of the Hall. All joining details are to be found on our main website - https://shottonhallanglingclub.co.uk/

Again, as a reminder you have until the last day in April 2026. After this date all applications will be closed. If you are not re-joining this 2026 season but have an access key you have until the last day of April 2026 to return this to the Hall.

Needless to say, but I have to say it following a number of emails, you will ONLY receive this code if you join Shotton Hall Angling Club for this 2026 angling season.

Today's bad weather has had me thinking about warmer days on the banks angling for the Crucian that we stocked over the last few years. Have any of our members caught one yet? I did see one or two on the couple of Angling Trust days that we hald some time ago, but there have been very few reports of any since, and that includes my own catches. Im keen, as are the Environment Agency, to see how they are fairing. So any pictures of Crucian catches at our pond last year (2025) would be very helpful. In the meantime, everyone wrap up, stay warm and stay safe this winter. To our winter anglers I say good luck, the Roach are good at this time of year, but for me ill continue to dream about those wonderful warm angling days to come in 2026.

It has become apparent that keys have been forged and distributed for access to our club water via our out of office access gate. All our genuine members will have paid for thier own key if they required. Peterlee Town Council have a list of individuals that have purchased a key over the past seasons. Please note, access with this key will soon cease and a combination lock be installed. The combination code will be provided to all new club memebrs for 2026. Those who have kept thier old key but not re-joined can get thier monies back by returning thier key with thier old memebrship as proof. No monies will be returned to those chancers handing in any old key. As detailed, Peterlee Town Council have a list of who owns these keys that they have distributed. Many thanks.
