There’s plenty to keep you entertained at RNLI Peterhead Open Day, with live performances taking place throughout the day from some fantastic local groups.

We’re delighted to welcome:

Whether you enjoy music, dance or live theatre, there will be something for everyone to enjoy as our performers help create a fantastic atmosphere throughout the day.

We are incredibly proud to have Peterhead Port Authority supporting RNLI Peterhead Open Day 2026.

As a vital part of our harbour community, PPA’s support extends far beyond this event. Time and time again they demonstrate their commitment to organisations, charities and initiatives that help make Peterhead the special place it is.

Their generous support helps us create a bigger and better Open Day for our visitors, giving local families the opportunity to meet the crew, explore the station, learn more about lifesaving at sea and enjoy a fantastic day by the harbour.

A great evening on the water during Monday night’s training exercise.

The crew worked through a range of scenarios, including control failure, single-engine running, main machinery and propulsion system failures, emergency procedures, locate and assist casualty, and towing exercises.

A huge thank you to Intermara Marine for once again allowing us to use their vessel, Reul na Mara, for the exercise. Training like this ensures our crew remain prepared, proficient, and ready to respond when an emergency call comes in.

Meet Gary Culkin, RNLI Peterhead’s Lifeboat Operations Manager.

Whilst many people see the lifeboat launching, there’s a huge amount of work that happens behind the scenes to keep the station operational, safe and ready to respond when needed.

As Lifeboat Operations Manager, Gary oversees the day-to-day running of the station, supporting our volunteer crew and helping ensure that RNLI Peterhead is always prepared to answer the call.

From training and operational readiness to station management and safety, Gary plays a vital role in keeping our lifesaving service running smoothly.

At our Open Day, you’ll have the opportunity to meet some of the people who make it all happen and learn more about what goes on behind the scenes at Peterhead Lifeboat Station.

🛟 MEET OUR FLANK STATIONS 🛟

We’re delighted to be welcoming our flank stations, Aberdeen RNLI and Fraserburgh RNLI, to Peterhead Open Day on Saturday 20th June.

Joining us on the day will be RNLB Bon Accord (17-24) from Aberdeen and RNLB John Buchanan Barr (16-21) from Fraserburgh, giving visitors the opportunity to get up close to even more of the incredible lifeboats that help keep our coastline safe.

Working alongside Peterhead, our neighbouring stations play a vital role in providing a lifesaving service around the North East coast, responding whenever and wherever they are needed.

Come along to meet the crews, explore the lifeboats, learn about the specialist equipment onboard and discover how RNLI stations work together to save lives at sea.

A huge thank you to the volunteer crews from RNLI Fraserburgh Lifeboat and Aberdeen Lifeboat RNLI for supporting our Open Day. We can’t wait to welcome them to Peterhead.

🛟 MEET THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE PAGER 🛟

This is Gary, one of RNLI Peterhead’s Launch Authorities.

When the pager sounds, there is a lot happening behind the scenes before the lifeboat launches. As a Launch Authority, Gary plays a vital role in that process.

Launch Authorities are responsible for authorising the launch of the lifeboat, gathering information, assessing the situation, and helping ensure the crew can respond safely and effectively when called upon.

Whilst many people know the lifeboat, fewer get the chance to meet the people behind it.

At our Open Day you’ll have the opportunity to meet some of the crew, learn more about what they do, and discover what it takes to keep Peterhead’s lifeboat service running.

These are ordinary people doing extraordinary things for their community.

🛟 MEET RNLI 16-03 🛟

RNLI 16-03 is Peterhead’s Tamar Class all-weather lifeboat.

At 16.3 metres long and weighing 32 tonnes, she is a powerful piece of lifesaving equipment, designed to launch in some of the toughest conditions imaginable.

Always afloat and always ready, RNLI 16-03 is on station 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, ready to respond whenever the pager sounds.

With a crew of seven, a fuel capacity of 4,600 litres and the ability to carry up to 118 casualties in a mass rescue situation, she is built to save lives at sea.

But a lifeboat is only part of the story.

Behind every launch is a dedicated team of volunteer crew, Launch Authorities and support volunteers who give their time to ensure Peterhead’s lifeboat service is always ready when needed.

🛟 Step Aboard and Explore Lifeboats at Our RNLI Peterhead Open Day! 🛟

Ever wondered what it's like onboard a lifeboat?

Get up close to Peterhead's current Tamar Class lifeboat, RNLB Misses Robertson of Kintail, as well as the historic Douglas Currie. Our crews will be on hand throughout the day to answer questions, share stories from the station and explain the specialist equipment used during rescues.

We'll also be welcoming our friends from Aberdeen and Fraserburgh RNLI to Peterhead for the day. Keep an eye on the page over the coming days as we shine a spotlight on our visiting stations, lifeboats and crews ahead of the Open Day.

🛟 MEET THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE PAGER 🛟

This is Kyle, RNLI Peterhead’s Full-time Coxswain and Mechanic.

When the pager sounds, Kyle leads the crew and the lifeboat into all kinds of conditions, day or night, 365 days a year.

As Coxswain, he is responsible for the safe operation of the lifeboat and crew during service. As Mechanic, he helps ensure our Tamar class lifeboat, RNLI 16-03, is always ready to launch when needed.

Whilst many people know the lifeboat, fewer get the chance to meet the people behind it.

At our Open Day you’ll have the opportunity to meet some of the crew, learn more about what they do, and discover what it takes to keep Peterhead’s lifeboat service running.

These are ordinary people doing extraordinary things for their community.
