Community Spotlight: Swetha Sriraman

"I’m Swetha Sriraman—a software engineer, Bharathanatyam dancer, and teacher based in Peterborough, UK. Originally from Chennai, I moved to the UK in 2016 and began teaching Bharathanatyam in 2023, with current classes held at the Herlington Community Centre, Peterborough.

Teaching young children is one of my greatest joys. My mission is to help young minds connect with the richness of Indian culture, harmonizing mind and body to unlock their full creative potential through dance."

🎄 Help Bring the Community Together for the Peterborough Cathedral Christmas Tree Festival 2026!

I'm absolutely thrilled to be taking part in the Christmas Tree Festival at Peterborough Cathedral again this year! 🌟 To celebrate our amazing community, I'll be turning our tree into a MINI EXHIBITION featuring both my photography and art groups! Community Clickers Wild Art

If you ever joined us or plan to do it in the future, here is how you can get involved:

📸 PHOTOGRAPHY: Share What Is Special To You

I'll will be printing photos from our Social Photography walks, but I want your memories on the tree too!
• The Theme: "Something that is / feels special to you"
• What to send: It can be literally anything that holds a place in your heart: your cat, your motorcycle, a beautiful flower, a sunset, or a favorite walk memory.
• Your photo will be printed and placed inside a clear keyring to hang on the tree. I will add credit with your name on it, just like on our Community Clickers group covers! After the festival finishes, the keyring is yours to keep 🥰
• How to submit: email your photo to [email protected]

Deadline: 10th of November

🎨 ART: Free Kimekomi & Origami Workshop

For the art feature, I'll host hands-on creative session so we can craft beautiful pieces together to decorate the tree! No experience is needed, and it's a wonderful chance to learn a new skill.

• 📅 When: Saturday, 7 November
• ⏰ Time: 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM
• 📍 Where: The Green Backyard
• 💰 Cost: FREE !
**Booking required , spaces are limited.
Send email to: [email protected] to secure your space.

Decorating Date is 26th of November and you are free to join and decorate it with me. The Festival will then open on the Friday afternoon and run until Wednesday 6th January 2027 inclusive.

Let’s show the whole city the incredible heart, art, and soul of our community. I can't wait to create something beautiful together! 🤗🎄✨

⭐Community Spotlight ⭐ Get Featured on our website and page ⭐

They say “Go Big or Go Home!”...

But... when we focus only on big names, we risk overlooking the other people quietly building culture in our city every day! Yes... even at home! 😁

The emerging. The ones who create in small spaces. Hobbyists.Amateurs.Those who create not for profit, but because it simply makes them feel happy and fulfilled 😊 We know many in our city create, lead, and inspire while also navigating personal challenges, health conditions, or SEND—your voices, your story and your contribution matter.
Culture doesn’t belong to a few - it grows because of many!

We’re looking for real people!

🎨 The local artist creating from their kitchen table.
🎻 The musician recording tracks at home.
🤲🏻The volunteer running out or supporting a small circle
👩🏻‍🦽The person supporting SEND families.
🗣️The community organiser quietly holding spaces together.
✍🏻 The writer collecting stories and poetry in a notebook or drawer.

Everyone is welcome.

👧🏻🧒🏾 If you are under 18, you’ll need parental consent.
