Today we have had our first session working with Medeshamstede Academy, and they have been helping create one of our no-dig growing beds using a mixture of leaves, with carboard and compost on top, they have also helped clear timber and other materials around site, and harvest some chillies too. 🔥 MEN’S CLUB IS BACK! 🔥

Fire, wood, food and a bit of general tinkering… what more could you want? 😁

After a short summer break, our weekly Men’s Club is back, and we’re really keen to welcome some new faces!

We’ve been running for around six months now, building a lovely, relaxed and welcoming group of guys who enjoy getting together, having a chat, cooking food over an open fire, and getting stuck into a few carpentry, woodworking and garden projects.

There’s no pressure, no experience needed, and always something to tinker with. Whether you fancy learning a new skill, getting involved in a project, enjoying some good food or simply having a cuppa and a chat, you’re very welcome!

👋 Fancy giving it a go? Just pop down and say hello! You don’t need to book or commit to anything — come along, see what we get up to, and find out if it’s for you.

And if you know someone who might enjoy a bit of fire, food, woodwork and good company, please share this post with them. The more, the merrier! 🙌

⏰ 1pm – 4pm

Last Saturday we held our annual and much loved Apple Pressing Day.
It was a super success with over 50 visitors throughout the day...

Participants of all ages washed and then chopped the apples, before putting them through the 'scratter', a kind of mincing machine that crushes them into a pulp. This pulp is then placed in a mesh bag and placed inside the press, with a wooden board with wooden chocks ontop and as the handle is turned presses and squeezes the apples until the juice pours out the bottom - such great fun!

Lots of lush and delicious apple juice was made, some great conversations and new connections and the weather was stunning all day too!

Kids also got to walk through our orchard at look at where the apples came from, (fewer left on the trees this year due to the drought) and we talked about the different varieties of apples and managed to pick some that were still on the trees.

This workshop was the final session in our 12 month Wild Spaces / Shared Places program which was funded CrossCountry trains as part of their Biodiversity Improvement Projects (BIP) fund, so our thanks to them for funding 12 months of wonderful projects and workshops.

We'd also like to thank the ever excellent Lauren from Flourish for leading the session, the volunteers who helped set it up and supported on the day, and to Grace, who as always lent us her apple press for the day so we could have 2 running in tandem (there's a lot of apples to press!)
