Performing Magic for disabled people / teaching and adapting magic

Extreme Clowning started adapting magic for visually impaired people in 2003 - since then we have taught various workshops for disabled people who wish to learn magic. We have toured for Sense - where JJ and Jimmy (who is Deafblind) performed magic shows. JJ’s current assistant is Jonathon who has Cerebral Palsy and is getting a lot from learning magic. Together they won Blackpool Magic Convention

’s prestigious “Beat The Wand” contest in 2020 and continue to find new and innovative ways to make magic accessible.

MAGIC TOUCH ANNOUNCEMENT

From our next show at the Key Theatre, booking will work a little differently.

We will now have an official Magic Touch VIP list held by the Key Theatre.

If you are on the list, you will be able to call the theatre directly and book your FREE tickets for each Magic Touch show.

The reason for the change is simple. The theatre needs to keep an accurate eye on how many wheelchair users will be attending each performance, for safety and evacuation planning.

I have started the VIP list with the people who regularly attend:

Enzo Petruzziello x 1

Jayne Tindal x 3

Steven Lane x 3

Kayleigh Keys x 2
1 wheelchair space

Donna Hubbard x 3
1 wheelchair space

Katrina Blades x 2

Jonathan Shaw x 2
1 wheelchair space
Jonathan also performs with me

Kat Koy x 2
1 wheelchair / pushchair space

This will become the official booking list going forward.

If you are a regular at Magic Touch and think you should be on the VIP list, please let me know so I can make sure we have you included.

The shows will still be FREE. This is just a better way of making sure the Key Theatre knows exactly who is coming and can safely accommodate everyone.

Dear Magic Friends,
Since 2003, Magic Touch has been using magic to bring smiles, laughter and moments of genuine wonder to people who are so often overlooked.
Over the last 23 years we've performed free shows in schools, hospitals, care homes, disability groups and even one to one performances in cafés for people who simply needed a little magic in their day. Every month we also present a free theatre show for adults with learning disabilities and disabled people.
Magic has an incredible ability to break down barriers. It creates conversations, builds confidence and gives people experiences they'll remember for years. That's why we're so passionate about making it accessible to everyone.
We're fortunate to have earned the respect and support of many people throughout the magic community. If you've come across Magic Touch before, you'll know that every donation goes straight back into our work, helping us create new routines and reach even more people.
Like many magicians, you may have drawers, cupboards or flight cases full of props that no longer see the light of day. We'd love to give those tricks a new purpose.
A prop that's been sitting on a shelf for years could become the highlight of a workshop, a care home show, or the moment that makes someone believe in magic for the very first time.
If you'd like to support Magic Touch, there are several ways you can help.
Donate Unused Magic
If you have children's magic, parlour magic, comedy magic or props gathering dust, we'd be incredibly grateful. Whether it's one trick or an entire collection, every donation makes a difference.
Donate New Products
If you're a creator, dealer or manufacturer and would like to donate new releases or products, we'd be delighted to hear from you. Our current wish list is below, although we're always excited to discover something new.
Financial Support
This is something we rarely ask for, but financial donations help us replace worn equipment, develop new accessible routines and continue offering our performances completely free of charge. If you'd like to support us in this way, please get in touch.

Thank you for helping us show that magic really can belong to everyone.
With gratitude,
