🎨Welland Makers 🎨

A new crafty, making, chatty group based in Welland.

We’ll make you a brew, whilst you make something useful or beautiful.

Join these FREE creative afternoons where you make, create, and chat.

Welland Makers will be hosted by the amazing team of Orton Makers, which is a craft group that has been running for nearly four years over in Orton. (And was set up with Peterborough Presents originally). They are volunteers with busy lives, but they also have a passion for sharing easy, accessible, fun and different crafting. 😎

They encourage people to try new things with no worries about failing, and in safe and enjoyable meetings.

These sessions are open to everyone, whether you knit, carve, glue, draw, or make.

🙏🏽 In this first session, try decoupage. Which is the art of decorating objects with paper. Whatever you make you take away and we will provide materials and support for FREE.

You are welcome to bring along a personal crafting project. But, if you don’t have anything to bring but fancy having a go at making something, then there will be an activity for you to try. You can also come along if you just want to meet others for a chat.

No experience necessary, just an interest or curiosity in making / craft. We will provide the materials, tea, coffee, and biscuits.

WHEN: Wednesday 24th June between 12:30-2:30pm
WHERE: Woodfield Park Community Centre (The Charteris Centre), Normanton Road, Welland, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, PE1 4XE

COST: FREE! (No booking necessary, just drop in).

WHO: Age 16+ unless accompanied by an adult.

HOW: Email Keely Mills with questions (including questions on accessibility): [email protected]
or 07436 031383

Hopefully see you there!

Huge THANK YOU to Sandra Keating for going to the Welland Photo Exhibition and taking these photos (of photos) for us! 📸

3 more weeks to go of this exhibition being LIVE, please do pop on down while it’s up. Tell us what you think too!

!SNAP! is the bringing together of two neighbourhoods and two creatives from those places: ’s Toby Wood and ’s Sandra Keating.

Toby and Sandra both led a photo walk around each neighbourhood, exploring the places, nature or history that make them feel inspired or connected.

Participants were invited to take their own photos whilst on the walks, offer up stories, or just enjoy a wander.
These walks have been brought to life in two exciting outdoor exhibitions in the two areas. One at the Focus community centre, in Dogsthorpe and the other at Woodfield Park in Welland.

With the permission of those who took part, this exhibition includes their images. It includes Toby’s poem the ‘Glory of the Ordinary’ which praises what makes where we live, important and feel safe.

!SNAP! celebrates the similarities of the two areas, their beauty in the ordinary, their urban nature, and what makes these places feel like home.

The exhibitions started on the 22nd of May and will be installed for at least a month. They are FREE.
If you want to see both of these FREE exhibitions, then visit the Focus Community Centre on Chestnut Avenue in Dogsthorpe or Woodfield Park Community Centre (Charteris Centre) on Normanton Road in Welland.

These exhibitions were not the only outcome of the SNAP photo walks, Toby and Sandra curated and designed a pocket size booklet. Its a mini exhibition that people can have on their book shelf or in their handbag.
You can pick up a FREE copy at venues in the Welland and Dogsthorpe, including the Focus Centre and Woodfield Park.
So please grab one.

A little message from Orton Makers

Recognise a few faces? 🙈🙉🙊
We're off to help set up Welland Makers, running alongside Orton Makers. It will be a busy few weeks!
We know the benefit of coming together to create, connect and get your craft on.
At our lovely group today there was so much chatter, friendliness and laughing. And most people initially met at our group after walking in not knowing anyone 🥰
I think every area needs a 'Makers'. So come help us support Welland, or share to anyone in the area that you think might want to pop in.
The venue is lovely, the kettle will be on.
Everyone welcome, you don't need to be an artist or a seasoned crafter. We can talk you through each craft and make it work for you. Or bring your own, we'd love to see what you're making.
Look forward to meeting you, Clare, Zoe and Kerry xx

We had such a lovely time working with these kind and creative young people. Their contributions will be part of the mural we are working on for Eye. Watching them draw together was a gorgeous moment to be involved in. Thank you to Manor Drive Secondary Academy for inviting us and to Emily Bowers for leading the session.

Eye Village Outdoor Exhibition!

Look at what some of the incredibly talented young people of Eye village have produced!

‘Smudges & Snapshots’ is an exhibition inspired by the nature and green spaces in Eye. It was created by 10-15 young people of Eye working with , Emily Bowers, they tried different drawing and photography techniques.

Not only did they produce all the artwork, but they also curated all the pieces in the exhibition.

This Eye Gets Green exhibition and workshops are part of a wider project called ‘Better, Healthier, Greener Futures. The programme aims to support young people aged 11-25 in Peterborough to develop new skills and create connections with nature and local greenspaces.

The pieces can currently be seen at the back of the Manor Farm Community Centre - Eye Village on the playpark railings for the next month!

📸 Thank you to Dale McKean & Ruth Campbell-Ekins for taking these photographs of the . 📸

What an epic Dogsthorpe Women’s Eid Party and Celebration. 🥳🙏🏽

Thanks to all that came and enjoyed it with us. 🌹

What an amazing turnout, women and children enjoyed gathering, the free food, craft and creative workshops, cultural stalls, cakes and sweet treats, a 360 Photo Booth, female DJ, a raffle, and optional dancing, face painting, and more. 😎

More people came than we expected too!
Shahzias and Khadijah’s creative tables were full all night, and the amazing food ran out early! Lots to learn for next time, but overall, an incredible gathering for our neighbourhood of Dogsthorpe. 🙃

Well done to Robina, the creative genius behind the decor, and to the Anchor Group… both for co-organising and curating this event! 🙏🏽

Thanks to all the stallholders, DJ, and all the creatives! 🎤

Thanks to for their accessible venue!

High fives all round.

Ps. If you have any feedback for us or the teams involved, please do let us know via private message, what your experience was, what you thought went well and how we can improve. This is how we improve for future creative events and activities.
