Perth Art Workshop's Autumn sessions will re-start on Monday 21st September at 10.00 am until 12 noon at Moncrieffe Community Centre, 2 Glen Lyon Road, Craigie, Perth.

We no longer have a tutor but have agreed to continue painting together as a group. We are a friendly supportive bunch of amateur artists. 🫟
We welcome new enthusiastic members who enjoy painting, or want to give it a try.

The cost for 10 week membership is £30. If you join us you will be made very welcome. Bring your own painting materials (any medium) plus your own ideas of what you'd like to work on. We have books and magazines to inspire your imagination and supportive advice - should it be required.

The 10 week sessions run from 21/9/26 to 30/11/26 inclusive.

(Just for interest, I met Wendy - below, a few months ago at one of her exhibitions in Perth. She produces fabulous felt illustrations of Scottish landscapes and other items.
See below for more details).

Last week we said farewell to our long standing, tutor, Douglas Mathews. He will be sorely missed by our wee group, which is Perth Art Workshop.

After much thought and deliberation we have decided to continue to meet to paint without a tutor. We are currently on our summer break but our Perth Art Workshop meet ups will recomence on Monday 21st September at 10 am at Moncrieffe Community Centre, 2 Glen Lyon Road, Craigie, Perth.

Douglas left us quite a legacy of love of art and painting in a wide range of subjects using different artistic methods. We will continue to follow his teachings and be inspired by his enthusiasm.

If you'd like to join us you'll be most welcome to join our small and encouraging group.

The cost for ten weeks' art workshop meet ups is £30. Bring your own art materials. Each session lasts 2 hours from 10am until 12 noon. The autumn session runs from Monday 21st September until Monday 30th November 2026 inclusive.

Today we said a fond farewell to our fellow member, Rosemary Stewart. Rosemary was a long standing, and loyal member of our group. Her favourite painting subject was Flowers and she produced wonderful work over the years. Her paintings are tangible reminders to her family and friends of her inspiration and talent.
RIP Rosemary you willl be sadly missed by us all.

Our tutor, Douglas Mathews,
concluded his poster painting demonstration by adding blocks of colour to his illustration. (See photos below) The end result shows how this technique is so different to his watercolour of the same subject. This inspired some of the members of the group to try out this technique. 🫟

Before and after Douglas’ demonstration we were working on our individual paintings. They could not be more different in terms of subject, style and medium, but that’s what is so enjoyable about our group. 🫟🎨🫟

On Monday our tutor, Douglas Mathews, demonstrated the different techniques employed in poster painting. He brought in one of his watercolour paintings of sheep in front of a stone d**e and carried out a live demonstration of how the same image would be painted in a poster style. This week he completed the drawing. Next week he’ll add in blocks of colour in gouache.
