Lantra Scotland helps land-based, aquaculture and environmental industries to train their staff and encourages new people to join the sector by promoting it as a really worthwhile career choice. More than 1 in 10 businesses in Scotland operate within land-based, environmental and aquaculture industries, providing quality assured food, ensuring animal health and welfare, widening leisure activities, improving rural environments and urban green spaces, and protecting our natural heritage. Lantra Scotland represents the interests of over 28,000 businesses employing around 152,000 people. Over 70,000 work in primary food production as part of the food and drink sector, including agriculture, production horticulture and aquaculture. If you’re paying someone to take your waste away, ask for their registration number and check it on the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) register. If they can’t provide one, or you can’t find them on the register, walk away. It only takes around 30 seconds to check. If you’re a primary producer of livestock, hens, or vegetables and fruit and wondering if there’s a way to sell your produce locally and develop your own local food business, this course is a great place to start.
Open to crofters, smallholders, farmers and other small-scale producers, it features Jo Hunt, of Knockfarrel Produce and other inspiring small-scale food producers, and will take you step-by-step through the process of setting up a local food business using your own produce.

Our Women in Fund supports women and girls aged 13 and above who live and work in Scottish agriculture, giving them greater access to skills and training to strengthen their confidence, business resilience and leadership capabilities.
Thanks to The Scottish Government funding, they can engage more fully in sustainable and regenerative agricultural practices, develop stronger business skills and take on greater leadership roles, making the country’s agricultural sector more diverse.
100% funding is available for training valued at up to £500 a course. You can apply for larger amounts but will be asked to show the value of the course to yourself or your business.

The Lantra Rodent Management Training and Level 2 Qualification with Findlay Training is eligible for funding for the cost of training through: Women in Agriculture | Small Producers | Next Generation.
It's a complete route to safe, lawful and effective rodent management, and recognised by the Campaign for Responsible Rodenticide Use (CRRU).
Regulated qualifications like this are needed if you want to buy professional-use rodenticides in the UK.

Our Job of the week is as a Trainee Grain Trader.
This is a rare opportunity to join a successful agricultural business and develop into a Grain Trader through a structured succession plan. Working alongside an experienced trader, you'll gain the skills, market knowledge and industry relationships needed to build a long-term career in agricultural trading.
As part of a planned succession strategy, you'll receive hands-on training across grain trading, customer management, market analysis and agricultural inputs. Over time, you'll take on greater responsibility while being supported by an experienced mentor.
No previous grain trading experience is required, just an eagerness to learn, strong communication skills and a genuine interest in the industry.
