⭐️⭐️⭐️YDP WORKSHOP⭐️⭐️⭐️

Last Saturday 25th of July we had the final Aberdeen Angus YDP workshop for 2026 in Ireland.

Once again we had brilliant hosts in Dr. Felicity And Patricia McGrath of the fabulous Gortnalon Aberdeen Angus herd just outside of Ballinasloe Co. Galway.

It was another fantastic and fun filled day with lots of enthusiastic participants and trainers.

💫🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿YDP WORKSHOP💫🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Sunday 5th July we had the third YDP workshop held by kind permission of R&C Rettie, D**e Farm, Falkirk.

An amazing day was had by all with over 30 kids in attendance and being shown all aspects of cattle clipping, dressing, ringcraft & stockjudging by trainers who play a massive part in the Rettie’s business. Sophie Harvey, Ewen McRobert, Rob Coney & Stephen Taylor are part of Team Rettie who attend many shows and sales with Richard & Carol and do a great job of turning our cattle for the show and sale rings.

We had an endless amount of cattle available, the set up was perfect and the hospitality was 10/10. A massive thank you to the Rettie’s for all their hard work, and support to the YDP.

Our day ran smoothly with the assistance of some great helpers including Chae Rettie, Martin Crombie, Jess Marwick & Emyr Owen and many more.

The third and final YDP workshop for the South of England was held on Sunday 5th July at Temple Aberdeen Angus in Somerset, with many thanks to Judith and Grace Denning for hosting the event.

The enthusiasm and potential from every young person who attended was phenomenal! Well done to each and every single one of you!
A huge thank you goes out to all of the trainers; Grace Denning, Ian Dowlman, Becky Hurd and Alan Timbrell. I say this time and time again but I can’t thank our trainers and hosts enough for the time, support and guidance you give to the young people in the Youth Development Programme! Your wealth of knowledge and passion for influencing the next generation of stock people is such a credit to our beef industry.

Special thanks to Jack Ellicott for showing us how to make a halter, Caisley ear tags for supplying us with ear tags to demonstrate how to tag and to SHOWTIME SUPPLIES for sponsoring the Youth Development Programme nationally.

I can’t wait to plan next years’ workshops and look forward to seeing you all again in the future!
