Perth Speakers Club

Perth Speakers Club Meetings are between September through to April every fortnight on a Thursday evening starting at 7.30pm till roughly 9pm.

15/04/2026

Note of The Meeting - Perth Speakers Club .
26th March @ ESOLPerth - 7.30pm

The meeting opened with a wonderful display of food, courtesy of Miami, what that woman can do with a satsuma is almost bordering on art !
Our Hybrid Meeting thanks to Josef and Linda was ready to rock and roll - unfortunately our zoom guests were in a car heading for Elgin so this was put back till the following meeting.

In the Business Section, the upcoming Speak Together Event in Aberdeen, was discussed and participants picked - Miami was keen to win it !
She was sadly informed that it was not a competition, but she was still keen to win it, all the same.

Apologies : Mitch, Dzifa, Euan.

Alex introduced his Tai Chi - which this week was all about breathing - an important ingredient to any exercise …..

As Linda was meant to be our Chair for the previous evening, but had been unfortunately detained, she was pleased to take on her role…
She introduced -

Louise - On Power ( Part 2 ) - answer to Miami - At the previous meeting Miami had made a comment about innovation and how difficult it was to be innovative in today’s world - Louise answered this question but instead of being a follow-up - presented pretty much a brand new speech - very innovative !

Alex - in thoughtful style gave his Life of Learning - a tale of his journey to the lectern and finding his voice - this was excellent from Alex, very much enjoyed by the throng.

Last, but not least was Tony, with a B2 ( mean what you say ) called Tony Talks Rubbish
Tony was asking the question, why people who live in one of the most scenically beautiful places on earth feel the urge to just chuck their rubbish all over the joint -

To be fair in Evaluation this caused great discussion and involved massive debate -
it might be something that we could return to at some point - as the discussion was ‘ littered ‘ with opinions - Tony had unearthed a goldmine of rubbish.

After the break - Ruggero took control of our Topics -
noo our Ruggero has a singular style and his Topics are just as unusual.
His word for the night was ….. Ultracrepidarians - I kid you not !
He even tried to explain this with Latin, - Ne Ultra Crepidam, which for the uninitiated, and for those of you who just don’t know means, No More, Than Choose -
As you could imagine when it takes you half the night to figure out what the Topic actually means - we were not left with a lot of time to talk about it.
Apparently it means : a person who speaks about a subject, or expresses an opinion of which they have very little knowledge - How did we not know that !
A word that simply sums up Perth Speakers Club.
A very enjoyable if not coherent part of our evening.

As the Easter Holidays are upon us - it was decided to put back our next meeting till the 23rd of April so that Linda could get a wee break ( fat chance ) -
As this will be our final meeting of the season -
Everyone must take part, so bring along a speech, poem , reading, yer granny, -
Peter and Lise Olsen will be our guests on Zoom ?

15/03/2026

Minute of PSC meeting on 5th March 2026 @ ESOLPerth

Creating a President Ewen welcomed the throng and especially our guests Tony, Sahir, and Khaya who fully participated and enriched our evening.

Ewen was chuffed, as for the first time this season we had a Business Session

Capitation has been paid and ASC have taken oor name oot o’ the windie -
Miami has already reimbursed Ewen, with cash ( no idea what that stuff is ) the Queen does not normally have a beard but i am sure the bank teller will hardly notice.

Alex would like us to become a Hybrid Club, and after a short discussion it appears that everyone else is happy with this decision. Before we punt this properly we are gonna have to see if it works. The next meeting on the 26th March will be our trial period - Peter and Lise Olsen are our invited zoomers to test drive this new initiative.
Action Point : Alex to liaise with Linda to acquire camera and mic required for zoom meeting - anyone who has any experience of such a thing would be affa helpful.

Northern Area ( ish) are holding a Speak Together Day on Sat. 11th April @ The Station Hotel. Aberdeen. We are looking for volunteers for a Speech Contest / Evaluation Seminar / Team Speaking Event ( Chair & Two Speakers )
So please give this a bit of thought

Apologies were received from Mitch, Dzifa, Rogerro, Euan.

Alex came forward to take charge of the 5 minute Tai Chi - this week was all about balance, and in particular no falling over !

As Linda was busy with other things - Ewen Chaired the Meeting,
First up was Alex, with a ditty about an introduction to a scottish spring - full of rich and expressive language.

Next up was Louise with a personal account of her meeting with a Stanislas Yassukovich : by the sounds of it, she was rather taken with this gentleman.

In Evaluation, whilst it was a brave effort, some of the expressions were a just bit beyond Alex and it was suggested that phonetics may help with his expression -
so introducing sounds instead of words.
Alex and Louise will be working on this.
Louise’s talk was inspirational as she spoke with such fluency and confidence - it was felt that it was an excellent example for our junior members to work on, in an attempt to emulate.

After the break , Ewen was in charge of Topics.
Its an example of how people minds work - as the Topic was Bugbear - which is something that irks you slightly, not seriously but just a minor annoyance -
It can also be a Hobgoblin ( but we were not talking about that )
As it turns out it - Hobgoblins was all that everyone wanted to talk about - they come in different forms and unusual names but they are universal throughout the world.
This was a fully inclusive section as everyone contributed.

Our Next Meeting is on the 26th of March as the throng feel that it has been way toooo long since we have seen our friend Rogerro and we simply cannot have another meeting without him.
The slate is clean so please feel free to pencil yourself into a Speech - Chair - Topics
We only have a couple of meetings left in our season, so if you fancy doing something, now is the time to act.

01/03/2026

Minute of PSC Meeting on the 19th Feb. 2026 @ ESOLPerth
Pretend President Ewen welcomed the family to the meeting

Apologies were received from just aboot everybody - Euan was off seeking the sun,
Mitch ( House Arrest ) Dzifa ( Cardiac Arrest ) Rogerro ( Arrested development )
Miami ( her leg fell off ) Elsa ( Child Birth )

We may have been small in numbers but were perfectly formed,

Alex was first up with 5 minute Tai Chi which is always an inspired start to any meeting - this evenings theme was all about breathing

Speakers :
Linda spoke about her work at ESOL and the new changes in law in regard to immigration law and its requirement for all folkies to take part in Community Service.
In this speech she asked a lot of rhetorical questions - and it was clear that Louise does love nothing more than a wee rhetorical question.

Alex ( Kung Hei Fat Choi ) spoke on the new Chinese Year of the Fire Horse - in Chinese culture a horse is not just an animal but a symbol of Speed, Strength, and Noble Perseverance ( whatever that is ) - Apparently according to Alex we are moving into a period that promises to be as dynamic as a galloping stallion.

In the late 90’s Ewen returned from China with a book on Chinese Horoscopes - He had previously asked people to supply him with their dates of birth - he had prepared a list and would read out the horoscope and the family had to decide who it belonged to.
It was a great source of mirth and enjoyment.
Rogerro / Alex - Metal Rabbit : Louise - Water Dragon : Ewen - Earth Boar : Linda - Metal Tiger : Miami - Metal Ox

Evaluation was interesting as we spent a long time talking about presentation, and finding material that suits the speaker.

After the break Louise presented her Topics about Horse(s) - this turned more into a chat really rather than proper Topics - it was engrossing as folk relived their experiences with horses, and we eventually went well over time.

Our Next Meeting is on the 5th March 2026 @ ESOLPerth 7.15pm

Chair : Linda
Speakers : Alex - Ewen
Topics : Rogerro

This is just a rough draft if anyone would like to do a speech or in anyway be included in the evening, just gi’ us a shout - and we can make that happen.

Just a wee heads up - we may have a guest / potential member coming on Thursday so best behaviour - na biting, spitting, or gouging.

Perth Speakers Club Minute of Meeting - 5th February 2026

Pretend President Ewen welcomed the throng and noted our apologies for the evening

Apologies : Euan ( off seeking the sun ) Mitch ( custodial sentence ) Dzifa ( sent regards from the Betty Ford Clinic ) Rogerro ( found what Euan was looking for, in Italy )

Alex was introduced to take us for ‘ 5 Minute ‘ Tai Chi - there is no doubt Alex is trying to build up his role in this regard as it definitely took a lot longer than five minutes but it was well worth it for the sheer look of horror, on Linda’s face.

Miami, took control of the Chair and welcomed Louise to the lectern -
Louise wanted to use Mark Anthony’s speech ( Friends, Romans, Countrymen, ) from Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar as her subject - in an analytical study, she picked it apart and emphasised the parts she felt were important.
In short, she wanted to emphasise the importance of passion in a speech.

Next up was Ewen, who noted that we normally have a Burns Supper at this time of year, but due to current circumstances this was not possible, so he gave, not an Immortal Memory, but just a wee nod to the great man.
He explained the backstory to ‘ Tam o’ Shanter ‘ followed by a small rendition of the Burns Opus.

In Evaluation : It was noted that both Louise’s & Ewen’s talks were very similar in the regard, that both pieces were designed to be performed, rather than spoken.
It is lovely to know that pieces like this exist in the world - and it was braw to hear them get an airing.

After the break, Linda took control of the Topics - her theme was My Country !
Alex was first up with a cracking piece about his many lives, born in a small fishing village, moving to Hong Kong City, and then onto Scotland
Thoughtful.
Mahdi & Mohammed our guests for the evening, were keen to take part and spoke brilliantly - we look forward to hearing more from them in the future.
Areen has been with us for a wee while now and has always preferred to sit and listen rather than take part, but on this occasion he finally decided that he would like to speak. It was well worth the wait - he spoke with passion ( what Louise was looking for ) about the partition of his country years ago, Kurdistan was broken up to form parts of Turkey, Iran, Iraq, and Syria. He spoke of his desire to not only have a country,
but also a home.
It was special.
Ewen was last up with Scotland, a country that you do not only carry in your heart, but it forms part of your entire soul - a land where we struggle to take anything seriously, but we do so enjoy a laugh !

Our Next Meeting : 19th February 2026
Chair : Rogerro
Speech :
Linda - ( who will have to be reminded )
Alex - The Year Of The Horse

Topics - Louise - She also has picked her Topic Theme - as it is the Chinese Year of The Horse - she has chosen ‘ Horses ‘ as her weapon of choice.

So Saddle Up, and we will see you there x

Minute of PSC Meeting on the 15th Jan. 2026
ESOLPerth @ 7.30pm

Apologies from Mitch, Elsa, Louise, Rogerro, Miami ( restraining order )
Dzifa has asked for a leave of absence - still drunk from New Year

The meeting opened with a welcome from Ewen to the throng, as we had quite a few apologies, we were no longer a horde.

Alex gave us a wee work out with his five minute Tai Chi which is now a firm favourite on our programme - for some, it was their first experience of exercise unless eating shortbread biscuits is considered a gym discipline.

Ewen then gave a eulogy to our late beloved President, Hugh Mackenzie who passed away just before Christmas. Hugh was a great source of enthusiasm and help to our less experienced speakers and his stories, tales, and adventures will be sadly missed by us all.
In his forty plus years as a member of Perth Speakers Club he held all relevant posts in the Club, but the one he loved the most was being President. Some people are just so suited to a role that it just sticks, and he was the glue that just kept everything together.

At the end of the day all we can do is thank him for his energy, enthusiasm, and kind advice that he has dispensed over his years as an ‘ inky fingered clerk ‘ from Perth Toon Cooncil.

Next up was Euan, who spoke on ‘ A Young Fools Memories ‘ - this was a very pertinent talk as Euan reflected on his 25 years in PSC - there was a lot about Hugh and all the other amazing characters he has met over the years.

Alex was next with a clever wee number called ‘ A life of Learning ‘ - this was a cracking piece by Alex which he was congratulated on - as he left education at Primary School, in spite of his now 76 years, he finds himself still in a Classroom.
Thoughtful and inspiring.

In Evaluation - Euan shared some his advice that he had gathered over the years with Alex - some of which he had received from Ewen, who had completely forgotten most of stuff that he had dispensed.
Ewen decided that he should stop dishing out advice, and maybe follow some of his own. Fonts need to be larger, and use smaller sentences - seems to be the way to go.

After a ten minute break we had inspiration quotes - Linda chose one from Nelson Mandela, no less - notable mentions came from members of the throng - ‘ You can always tell what God thinks of money - just look at the people he has given it too ‘ & The problem with a Rat Race, even if you win, yer still a rat !

In reflection, this was quite a sad meeting considering the circumstances but we can always find a tiny bit of mirth and happiness in every meeting.
It is why Hugh loved it so much and if you can have a wee bit of fun and also learn something at the same time - it is indeed time well spent.

NEXT MEETING

Will be on the 29th Jan. 2026 @ ESOLPerth - 7.15 - 7.30pm ( start )

Miami will be in the Chair

Speakers
Louise - ( use of voice )
Ewen - Robert Burns / A national poet ?
Sahid - Intro

Topics - Linda - who has already chosen her subject which is - My Country !
( All participants speak for two minutes )

Looking forward to seeing you all there …………… x

Perth Speakers Club Minute : 18th Dec

Apologies: Euan Dear, Mitch, Pres. Hugh, Vicky, Dzifa, Louise

This was first and foremost a social event so the majority of the evening was taken up by our members and guests consuming the fabulous fare produced by Miami and her large group of helpful elves.
Many thanks are also due to all the kind folk who brought along extra bits and pieces to complete the evening.
It was a great success and it was lovely to see so many people there, enjoying the event and each others company.
In the small Topics session, various members talked of their recollections and thoughts on the Festive Season
Rogerro talked about his family and absent friends, and how sadly missed they were especially at this time of year - we have so much to be thankful for, so it is good to be reminded of this every so often.
Christmas traditions were discussed, especially the Norwegian habit of hiding broomsticks on Christmas Eve, if yer broomstick was not hidden, witches would not steal them and use them to carry out dastardly deeds.
Ruggero even remembered his auld granny doing such a thing -
As no one actually uses a broomstick nowadays it did appear strange to own something which you never used, only to hide it one day a year to make sure no one pinched it.
Meanwhile in Japan, since 1974 it is traditional to celebrate Christmas with a family bucket of chicken from KFC ( other fast food outlets are also available )
even for the Japanese this did appear slightly weird - seemingly even the Japanese cannot explain it.
The last and probably most bizarre of Christmas traditions was the Swedish penchant to build large effigies of goats which they then decorate with ribbons.
These large goats can be nearly forty feet in height but over the years have fallen victim to arson attacks - they have now been set on fire no fewer than 28 times.
Local authorities are so concerned that they have built a fire station just round the corner from the goat in order to look after its continued welfare.

All in all it was an excellent evening and thank you to everyone who contributed.
Our next meeting will take place @ ESOLPerth on Thursday 15th of January
7.15 - 7.30 pm start

Chair - Miami

A minutes silence for our beloved President Hugh Mackenzie who sadly passed away on Christmas Eve - eulogy will be given by Ewen - members will be offered an opportunity to say a few words about Hugh if they so desire.

Alex - 5 minute Tai Chi

Speakers
1. Euan Dear - TBA

2. Alex - My Life of Learning - A Construction Speech which demonstrates a clear beginning, middle, and ending.
3. Faheem - Intro

Topics.
At New Year Rogerro kindly sent us all an inspiration toast by Corto Maltese -
In light of this, I would like for all of us to bring along a quote, phrase, or saying, that particularly resonates with you - read the piece and explain why these words mean so much to you. I think it only fitting that Rogerro Chair this section x

I am in Alicante in southern Spain just now, but will be home in time for the meeting and look forward to seeing you all soon.

Kindest Regards to all x

PSC Minute 20th Nov. 2025

Quite amazingly enough ; everyone rocked up super early for this evening’s meeting - we had moved digs apparently, this was a ‘ warmer room ‘ - within minutes, Tomas had turned into a human sprinkler system, clearly when this room is not fulfilling its normal role, it accidentally doubles as a sauna.
It was just universally decided that we all just take our clothes off -
I may well have just dreamt that bit.

Apologies were received from Rogerro ( mid flight from Italy ) Dzifa ( mid flight from the law ) Linda ( mid flight through a hot toddie )

The Upstart President welcomed the throng at exactly 7.30pm which Louise found most amusing, and introduced Alex who was all set and ready for his 5 min Tai Chi session, for some, it was their first introduction to this section of the evening - slightly skeptical were they of what exactly was expected of them, but Alex led them through the moves with his experience and skill - it was simply a triumph.

In the 30 sec. Topic section we had the tale of Robert the Bruce who some six hundred years ago, used to walk round the North Inch each evening with his pet lion.
This prompted the Topic, If I could have any animal in the world as a pet,
What would it be and why ?
This was taken by the entire ensemble with a vast array of animals, including gazelles,
White tigers, bears, and even a duck, which may well have been a swan,
the jury is still out on that one.
Great discussion followed the mention of Phillip Pullman’s Dark materials / Golden Compass - that everyone has a spirit animal, mine is definitely a gerbil.

Louise was then invited to take control of the Training session which she did with great deft. Polished and confident, she manoeuvred her way through the programme -

Ewen - Distributed his Evaluation sheets and talked the horde through the nuance of Evaluation. Splitting into groups they were to note observations from the following speech which would be discussed later.

Euan - The Artfulness of Sleep - this was a use of voice speech where Euan demonstrated his range of vocal effects describing sleepwalking children and fire alarms going off - it was a cracking piece for such an assignment.

A small evaluation took place going round the table and asking people what they had noticed - for a first time, this was a very encouraging exercise.

Tomas, was our final speaker - his Intro was different, very relaxed, very amusing and at times thoughtful, very few people can get to their feet and just be themselves - Tomas is one of a rare breed. For an introduction it was simply superb, and nothing more needs be added to that.

After our ten minute break -
Alex once again approached the lectern to Chair the Topics Session.
Education has always been a huge part of Alex’s life so he was keen to share his passion. Are School days REALLY the best days of your life ?
Topics were taken by - Josef, Elsa, Miami, and Faheem.

A very hearty vote of thanks were offered to Louise for the cracking way that she conducted our evenings ongoings.

Our next meeting will be our Christmas Party on 18th Dec.
Anyone who has traditional stories on a festive theme, ditties, poems, are invited to take part in what we hope will be an excellent evening.
More details will follow

Breaking News : we are looking to visit a Speakers Club in Canada, America, or Mexico during our Season 2026 - apparently there is gonna be nobody left in Scotland to talk to.

13/11/2025

Minute of PSC meeting @ ESOLPerth on the 6th of November 2025

Chaos is a great word, is it not ?
The dictionary tells us that it is the state of great disorder and confusion -
Everything in Speakers is learning, when the notice says that the meeting will start @ 7.30 pm - then that is when it’s gonna start !
In the professional world a meeting starting at the correct time, and more importantly finishing early or at the appointed hour is a good habit to acquire.
In the real world it is way too easy to be held up and end up running a wee bit late, and I have oft times found myself sneaking into a meeting and grabbing a seat at the back -
But when you canna even get in the door, never mind find a seat
Then that becomes disruptive and chaotic ……

It is truly fabulous that so many people want to come and join our wee family,
Our Treasurer Euan had popped in to say hello, he was just fair gobsmacked, as the last time Euan attended a meeting there were barely four folk, and a stray dog that had wandered in aff’ the street - its funny how things change.

At the next meeting adequate seating will be available and easy access for those good folk who are running a wee bit late : the new meeting time will be 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start.

Upstart President Ewen welcomed the throng and guests which included Hannan and Vicky ( there was another young gentleman but I did not manage to get his name )

We welcomed Alex freshly back from his recent operation - due to his convalescence he was not allowed to perform his Tai Chi but assured us that it will return next meeting
( gonna need an even bigger room fur this )

On the 30 second Topics - the subject was ‘ My favourite time of Year - and why ? ‘
Well Spring seems to take this particular biscuit with promises of rebirth and regrowth being the key factors, the heat lovers went for summer and Miami picked just about every season known to man by the time she wrapped up.
Special mention to Linda for a very polished, articulate and detailed topic
( and that’s without the wine )
If you were listening intently to Linda, that is the correct way to approach a
30 second Topic.

Ewen now introduced our Chair for the evening Rogerro - now oor Rogerro had misread the meeting info and just thought that he was down for a speech, so he stepped forth and delivered one of his fabby little numbers -
Speakers at a glance looks pretty easy and straightforward, but the more you get into it the more difficult it becomes -
The English Language on the surface looks easy and straightforward but the further you get into it, only then do you realise how difficult it actually is.
In a rather unusual twist Rogerro gave us something that we did not ask for -
but instead gave us exactly what we needed.
It was classic Rogerro masterclass.

Now Rogerro could not possibly have known this but we were shy of a Speaker at this meeting, as one of our allotted Speakers had not appeared on the night.
If you cannot be present could you please just drop us a wee line to let us know that you will not be attending : it helps the continuity of the evening and stops us from worrying if you have been knocked over, knocked off, knocked doon, or knocked up, by a passing bus.

Ewen was next with a Education section, he told the assembled throng that we will be concentrating on only four sections of the manual this season -
Construction / The voice / Mean what you say / Gestures
More details will follow but asked punters to start concentrating on fine tuning these disciplines - Clarity / Diction and Annunciation.

Last but not least was Dzifa ( Geefa ) , who was back for part two of her Intro - in a fascinating talk she gave us an insight into her life and even the meaning of her name ( it means Comfort by the way ) and her work as an anaesthesiologist, the biggest gasp of the night came when she announced that she had an eighteen year old son - especially as she only looks like she left the school ten minutes ago.

After the break - Miami took control of the Topics.
Now for future reference The Topics Chair ‘dishes oot’ Topics
( and does not actually do one herself )
Topics are meant to last for around two minutes - they are short and sweet and meant to preferably involve folkies that have not yet spoken -
Vicky one of our guests read a ditty that she invented using Deepseek ( an AI engine apparently- who knew ) which was very impressive- she is penciled in to discuss this further @ a later date.
This weeks offering was poetry readings from all over the world and their respective meanings - I do feel that we could revisit this after everyone has completed a Voice assignment - would be interesting to see the difference.

Our Next Meeting will be on Thursday 20th Nov. 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start.
@ ESOLPERTH
Chair - Louise
Speakers Euan / Tomas / Ewen
Topics : Alex

Minute of PSC Meeting on 23rd Oct. @ ESOLPerth

Apologies from Pres. Chuggie, Mighty Mitch, Faheem the magnificent.

Acting-Up Pres. Ewen welcomed the throng, not quite a horde, more like a bus trip, whilst playing with lectern, who appears to now enjoy moving aboot.
Ewen welcomed Alex to do his Tai Chi - Alex has seen this as an opporchancity to explain the medical and physical benefits of his art, whilst we all wanted to know the names of all the moves - Alex now realises this and will prepare said names and moves for the next meeting.

Another first, will be our 30 second Topics which was entitled - The word I love, and why do I love it !
We are had some great words and fabulous explanations as to why they were their favourites, Hope, Happy, Love, Gargantuan, and F***, ( not so much a word, more like an expression)

This was an inclusive and great start to our evening , which then beckoned the introduction to our Chair for the Training Session - Linda
Flying by the seat of her pants is exactly where this woman resides, like flicking a switch she pounced into action and introduced our first speaker

Alex. No.2 Mean what you say - Alex gave a brief description of his struggle with the English language and how it affected not just his ability to communicate but also his confidence and outlook.
With special mention to Linda and all his other Tutors he wanted to express his gratitude and thanks for the work that they had put into him, and how it has enriched his wellbeing and life in general.
Over the years Alex has worked tirelessly on his language and pronunciation, so it was great that he is seeing real improvement.

Next Up was Dzifa ( Geefa ) - as we are no the sharpest tools in the box so it took us clearly five go’s to properly get the pronunciation of Dzifa’s name - she spoke of her family in Ghana, her parents, and about her upbringing - as there was very little information about herself - it was suggested in Evaluation - that she do this again but this time dealing solely with her own life. She will do this at the next meeting.

After the break, Louise was invited to take the Topics - Now oor Louise is affa fond of a bit of poetry - she was keen to find out if the family could remember the odd line of a familiar ode - these were taken by Samir, Rogerro, Miami, Tomas, Josef, and Ewen.
Most people were struggling to recall much, just aff the top of their heads - so it was felt we might like to revisit this at some point.*
Special mention to Tomas who really threw himself into this, and Rogerro who used all the words from 30 second Topics to build his very own poem - excellent work!

Our Chair’s of both parts of our evening were in sparkling form - it was only later did we find out that they had been in cahoots ( famous mining town ) and due to the pressure and stress, had smuggled a bottle of red wine into the evening
Under normal circumstances this would not be recommended but considering their excellent presentations, might be worth having the stuff on tap for future meetings.
It’s no the first time I have slavered at a lectern, so might be worth a shout.

Our next meeting is on the 6th Nov. 2025

30 sec. Topic - My favourite time of year and why ?

Chair - Rogerro
Speakers :
Ewen - Speeches / all the different kinds !
Josef - Intro
Dzifa - Intro ( Take Two ) All about Me !

Topics * - Miami - two seconds after finding out that she would be doing this @ the next meeting Miami decided to acquire Louise’s idea and told everyone to make sure to look up poetry readings for our next meeting - if the reading is in a foreign language it must be accompanied with a translation and explanation OR your interpretation, of its meaning.

Whilst our numbers are very healthy, there is always a wee corner fur another wee soul so if you fancy coming along ; do not hesitate or dander - it is always lovely to see new folk …….

Minutes of Opening Night PSC 2nd October 2025

Ewen opened the meeting and welcomed the throng - and all our budding new speakers for this season.

Apologies were received from President Chuggie, ( restraining order ) - Mitch ( cosmetic surgery ) Rogerro ( hot date ) Euan ( thought he was gonna be late, turned oot he was )
Dzifa ( pronounced Jeefa ) Akakpo - ( got a better offer )

Special mention to Miami who, once again catered for us handsomely - clearly she was expecting the entire Mormon Tabernacle Choir to be in attendance, if the amount of food was anything to go by.

Acting Up President Ewen began by talking about Legacy and how important it is that we transfer knowledge from one generation to the next - this season will all be about sharing information and skills which were present in the room.
Every meeting will contain at least one element of Pure Training - speakers were asked to think on what skills they have acquired through life, that they could share with our members.

Tai Chi - A new addition to our programme Alex took the populace through some basic moves of the ancient art - this was Alex’s first time - and a shock to some of the group who were not just strangers to exercise, but any movement in general.

Training Session -
Ewen was in the Chair and explained that speaking naturally can only be achieved by a relaxed stance at a lectern, feeling comfortable @ a podium allows you to think and formulate better rapport with your audience.
As this was our first night, speakers were just asked to come up and try it out - first and foremost this was a taster evening and future meetings will be more structured and formal.

Topics -
Miami who was clearly more interested in food, decided once again to give the same Topic to everyone - the theme was your hometown, the place you call home and what it means to you. This turned out to be a very illuminating part of the evening.

We are compiling our contact list so could members please inform Ewen of their most current information ( mobile number especially ) so they can be added to our WhatsApp group.
( this might take some time as Ewen hates technology- and funnily enough technology just hates him back )

Next Meeting - Would Speakers please note that Linda who will be in the Chair at our next meeting has asked if we can move the meeting to the following week ( 23rd October ) as she has pulled something during Alex’s Tai Chi and needs another week to recover.

Chair - Linda
Topics - Louise

Speakers -
Alex - A2 - Mean what you say
Ewen - Evaluation - the art of critical listening
Dzifa - introducing herself

Evaluators - the throng
