Hedgehogs are often classed as the nation’s favourite mammal but they are now vulnerable to extinction in the UK. Numbers are falling because human activity causes habitat loss, habitat fragmentation and fatal hazards. Once common in our countryside and gardens, up to 60% of children now say they....

The things you find in hedgehog poo! 💩 🤢
This mite will have been ingested by the hedgehog when grooming.
What is incredible is that it was racing around in the poo sample not phased by its journey through the digestive system and is so tiny you can’t see it with the naked eye. 👀 🔬

This little guy was found by the maintenance team in an ice cream tub in a bin bag at work today! 😳 We’re hoping he just got disoriented and went to bed in the wrong place. We will keep him in overnight for observation and if he’s ok tomorrow will re release him.

Our beginings

Living in west Cornwall we are lucky to experience nature at its best and feel compelled to protect it in whatever way we can. British hedgehogs are now officially classified as vulnerable to extinction and we wish to rescue, rehabilitate and release as many hedgehogs as possible whilst educating the young and not so young on how we can all protect and support these fantastic little creatures within their natural habitats.

We are four friends who have all worked within the animal industry for several years, have a range of animal related and young people/ educational based skills and qualifications between us.

We were lucky to cross paths with a local lady who provided a hedgehog rescue who enlightened us to the plight of British hedgehogs. We arranged a visit from her at the local youth club we run where she presented a wonderful informative workshop for the young people.

When Brendan found an underweight hedgehog (who he named Simon) out in the daytime it was Jill we called for advice. We discovered she was moving away to Yorkshire and this gave us the push we needed to do what we had talked about for a while and start up our own Hedgehog Rescue and rehabilitation. We are still in the early stages but with Jills support and the amazing fund-raising support from local people we will soon be able to take in more hedgehogs.
