Join us for a free farm walk and talk hosted by Trink Dairy owner Chris Knowles on Friday 09 October, 10.00 - 13.00

Trink is an important driver of the food supply chain in west Cornwall, supplying local businesses. At this event you will learn about the practical impact of climate change on a dairy farm of 300 cows in west Cornwall's AONB, on the edge of an SSSI, and how the farm works with bodies such as Landscape Cornwall and Natural England in implementing a landscape recovery plan while maintaining and encouraging access to healthy food and the countryside. Issues such as soil quality, climate change and farming economics will be covered and there will be an opportunity to see the milk being bottled.

There is ample free on-site parking on the left at the dairy next to the farm machinery, and refreshments can be purchased in the 'Made by the Lake' cafe, which is on the other side of the main road to Trink.

Cornwall Centenary Open Garden & Cream Tea! Sun 13 Sept, 2-5pm at Millpool Grange PL30 4HZ. Talks by Robin & Merlin Hanbury-Tenison

As part of our Cornwall Centenary events we are hosting an Open Garden and Cream Tea afternoon on Sunday September 13th from 2 until 5pm at Millpool Grange, Millpool PL30 4HZ.

We are delighted to confirm that our Patron Merlin Hanbury-Tenison and his amazing 90 year old father, the famous explorer Robin Hanbury-Tenison, will pop in around 4pm to give us a short talk about their intrepid 100 miles water bike trip down the Thames. They raised a huge amount for the Thousand Year Trust’s first dedicated temperate rain forest research station at Cabilla.

Millpool Grange is three-and-a-half acres of garden with a stream (somewhat depleted currently), semi-formal area with fountain and two bridges, and a wildlife pond teeming with life. It is home to otters, moorhens and of course the heron and wildflowers and helpful weeds are allowed to flourish for wildlife. Most plants are grown from seed and specifically for bees and butterflies.

Cornwall CPRE relies almost solely on volunteers and membership and it would be wonderful if you could find the time to come along and learn more about what we do. Entrance is free and the cream tea which is £5 will be home- made scones from a secret family recipe. Well-behaved dogs are welcome (on a lead) as there are moorhens in the little lake.

We had been expecting the publication of the revised National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) before the House of Commons rose for summer recess. CPRE was concerned that publication of the NPPF would be premature, given the incoming Government and the plans Andy Burnham had set out, particularly regarding new social housing, protecting green spaces and devolution, including for rural areas. The proposed changes to the NPPF were extremely centralising, which is the antithesis of the plans Burnham has set out.

CPRE lobbied civil servants to delay publication of the NPPF until the new ministerial team was in place, and we are pleased to have persuaded officials to postpone publication. CPRE will continue to press the Government to amend the NPPF, particularly around removing the concept of the "grey belt" and encouraging brownfield development, reinstating the weight given to valued landscapes, and ensuring more rural affordable housing is delivered.
