We couldn't do what we do without our Change Makers 🌿

Change Makers are businesses and organisations who partner with us to help us support volunteers, provide free equipment and run campaigns and community projects across Cornwall. We can't run without them!

Today we'd like to shine a spotlight on one of them, Brooks Estates, who have recently celebrated a special birthday! 🎉

Brooks Estates are a Cornwall-based property management company with sustainability and community at the heart of everything they do. Their work goes far beyond managing developments. They actively champion biodiversity, support native wildlife, encourage community engagement and work to create healthier places for people to live.
They believe that environmental responsibility and strong communities go hand in hand. Through resident engagement projects, community activities and partnerships with environmental organisations, they are helping to create places where people feel connected to both their neighbours and the natural environment around them 🌿

Their support as a Clean Cornwall Change Maker helps us continue supporting volunteers, community groups and local action across Cornwall.

A huge thank you to Rain and the whole Brooks Estates team for their ongoing support and for sharing our commitment to creating a cleaner, greener Cornwall for everyone.

If your organisation would like to join our growing network of Change Makers and help support environmental action across Cornwall, we'd love to hear from you! 💚

Looking for a simple way to give back?

It's Volunteers' Week, and there’s no better time to make a positive difference in your local area!

Whether you're heading out on your own, gathering friends, involving your workplace, or organising a community group, a litter pick is a simple way to care for the places we all enjoy.

When you register your litter pick with us, you can borrow equipment free of charge, including litter pickers, hoops, bags, high-vis vests and gloves. You'll also receive support with waste collection after your event and be covered by Cornwall Council's public liability insurance.

Getting involved is easy, and every bag collected helps make a difference.

A huge thank you to the team at Imerys who shared these photographs from their recent litter pick at 💚

Together they collected an incredible 15 bags of rubbish from the beach at Carlyon Bay, including bottles, caps, straws, tyres, fishing nets, cigarette butts and plastic bottles.

Thank you to everyone involved for giving up your time. Community action like this really does make a difference.

We’re really pleased to share that St Ives now has not one, but two new community litter picking hubs 💚

Thanks to the support of the local community, litter picking equipment can now be borrowed from both the Royal British Legion and the Tregenna Hill Co-op, making it even easier for residents, visitors, schools, groups and families to get involved in caring for the town and coastline.

Having accessible hubs like these helps remove barriers to volunteering and supports more people to take simple action when they can, whether that’s a planned litter pick or just grabbing a picker and bag for a quick clean while out walking.

A huge thank you to both locations for supporting community action and helping make litter picking more accessible across St Ives 👏

If you’d like to borrow equipment or find out more about community litter picking in Cornwall, get in touch with Clean Cornwall.

Thanks to Beach Guardian and Cornwall National Landscape for donations of equipment and essential funding too 💚

Thanks so much to everyone who has been out litter picking over the last couple of weeks, including a newly formed group in St. Ives - get in touch with us if you'd like to know more and support them in joining their next litter pick.
St. Ives Royal British Legion is now also part of our Pubs as Hubs scheme and we were really pleased to deliver a permanent on site litter picking kit to them last week.
Also, thank you to Torpoint Environmental Action Group, Bodmin Tidy It Team, St Dennis Parish Council, St Austell Tidy Up Team and One Bag Beach Clean for sharing your photographs. An amazing effort by everyone involved, thank you 💚

The Big Help Out is all about people coming together to make a difference in their communities and litter picking is one of the simplest ways to do exactly that 💚

As part of The Big Help Out, we’d love to see communities across Cornwall getting involved in local litter picks throughout the week and weekend. You can plan a solo pick, gathering a few friends, organising something through your workplace, or bringing your local group together, every bag collected helps care for the places we all share.

If you would like to organise a litter pick, we can help with:
• free litter picking equipment loans
• rubbish collection support
• public liability insurance through Cornwall Council
• help promoting your event

You do not need to organise a huge event to make a difference. Small actions, repeated across lots of communities, have a huge impact.

If you would like to get involved:

1. Register your litter pick with Clean Cornwall Add ‘Big Lunch’, ‘Big Do’ or 'Big Help Out' to your event name: https://www.cleancornwall.org/litter-picks
then
2. Add your event to the Big Lunch Map to help others find and join you! https://www.edenprojectcommunities.com/add-your-event-to-our-map

What if a litter pick felt more like a get together?

From 5th to 8th of June, we’re teaming up with Eden Project Communities to bring Big Lunch litter picks to communities across Cornwall.

A simple idea: Host your own litter pick/beach clean, come together, clear your local area, then stay for food, conversation, and connection.
Start small, keep it simple, make it yours.

How to take part
1. Register your litter pick with Clean Cornwall Add ‘Big Lunch’ or ‘Big Do’ to your event name: https://www.cleancornwall.org/litter-picks
then
2. Add your event to the Big Lunch Map toHelp others find and join you! https://www.edenprojectcommunities.com/add-your-event-to-our-map

The first 5 Big Lunch Litter picks who add their event to the Big Lunch Map using the Clean Cornwall name will also receive a £20 Co-op voucher to go towards your Big Lunch!

“There’s an underlying want to be part of the community is everywhere. Tap into it, enjoy it!”

👋 Meet the Charlestown Chums! Part of Clean Cornwall, they’re a group of friendly volunteers who have been litter picking around Charlestown Harbour in Cornwall for the last 7 years!

Just as Rick says here – volunteering is a brilliant way to get more involved in your community, make friends, and feel proud of where you live.

If you’ve been tempted to try volunteering – this is your sign!

Between 5-8 June, there will be loads of opportunities to join in the Big Help Out, as brilliant charities and community groups like the Charlestown Chums and Clean Cornwall invite you to lend a hand across the UK.

April continued to show just how much people across Cornwall care about the places around them.
Last month, 529 volunteers took part in 43 registered litter picks across Cornwall, with 227 bags of waste already reported through our data returns so far.

Behind every one of those numbers are people giving up their time to look after beaches, lanes, villages, towns and green spaces simply because they want to make a difference. Thank you to every volunteer, group, school, business and community organisation that has been out supporting cleaner local environments throughout April.

As always, the figures only reflect the data currently submitted, so if you have not yet returned your litter pick information, please do send it through. It helps us build a clearer picture of the impact volunteers are making right across Cornwall.

We are also continuing to roll out new equipment through our Pubs as Hubs scheme, helping more communities access free litter picking equipment locally. This week we are looking forward to heading to St Ives to deliver new kits to the Royal British Legion as the network continues to grow.

Thank you again to everyone continuing to show up, organise picks, borrow equipment, encourage others and quietly make a difference every single week 💚
