Today's the perfect opportunity to celebrate and πŸŽ‰ Two things that are totally aligned to our work at Tregovenek πŸ’š

πŸ™ A huge thank you to our wonderful volunteers who do such an amazing job and to the garden for nourishing us with its beauty and abundance 😍

🐝 The garden is absolutely buzzing, it's a great environment for the wildlife we share this place with 🐦

🧘 We had a blissful and productive morning in the garden. Lots of learning including the rolling hitch knot and how to make liquid fertilisers. Also an opportunity to learn the art of cooking and eating artichokes. Along with lots of other fantastic food in our shared lunch 🍲πŸ₯—

πŸ“πŸ«› Our produce is so beautiful it's a work of art, just look at some of these amazing photos! πŸ’•

🧀 Like to join us? Our next work party is Friday 12th June. If you can't make Fridays, our Saturday work party this month is Saturday 20th June.

🌼 We often focus on the beautiful garden, but we also have opportunities to get involved with other tasks including construction of the field shelter/kitchen and general maintenance tasks βš’οΈ If you have these skills or would like to learn new ones there are lots of ways to get involved. Please contact [email protected] to find out more.

A quick call out for our informal little stall at Tregovenek. We love to celebrate the abundance that is created in this special place and we love to share too πŸ’š

We have been potting up surplus plants in recent weeks. Please pop in and have a look 🌻

Don't forget, the community garden is open from dawn to dusk as a peaceful space to sit down, relax and reflect. A fabulous place to connect with nature too 🐦

Time to focus on the veg beds today and a transition from winter veg to the summer veg that we have been gently tending in the polytunnel. These beautiful plants need to feel the soil on their roots now to flourish and provide abundant food in the coming months 🌿

There was magic in the air today and the newly designed system aka 'pick a card - any card' was trialled and we transformed the veg beds πŸͺ„

By the end of the morning we had:
An impressive harvest of chard πŸ₯¬
Lots of fabulous material for the compost heap πŸͺ
A banquet for the worms πŸͺ±
Happy plants with their roots in the soil πŸŒ½πŸ«›πŸ«˜

A day of gently nurturing the garden and reflecting on the coming season, beautiful conversation and positive vibes 🧘

πŸ“– Tales of a worm whisperer and other stories...

Permaculture principles of Earth Care, People Care and Fair Share are at the heart of everything we do at Tregovenek πŸ’š 🌍

πŸͺ± Today we added Worm Care and shared learning with a recap on how we care for some very hardworking members of the garden team, the folk who live in the wormery!

We can now nominate a worm guardian for each session to ensure that our friends are happy and well nurtured πŸ’šπŸͺ±πŸ’š

So, what were our other stories today πŸ“š

πŸͺ Lots of w**ding including the dock challenge - and some dock themed riddles and puns πŸ˜‚

🌼🌻 More preparation in the new cutting garden, it's going to be a riot of colour in the coming months. Stay tuned as this story unfolds πŸ’

🌱 Continuing to pot on seedlings for the next chapters in the coming months 🌿

πŸ“œ Lots of general jobs that help to keep the garden looking amazing πŸͺ„

🐝 Taking time to spot the things that attract wildlife to share the plot with us. What a privilege to glimpse an elephant hawk moth passing through the polytunnel 😍

Inevitably, we ended the session with a rendition of a famous worm song 🎢 thank you Nigel!

πŸ€— Thank you The Peninsula Trust for coming to visit us!

You were a pleasure to host - its so heartwarming to see the curiosity and wonder in young people and adults alike when they explore this beautiful place. Its like a subconscious memory is remembered, just by being in nature, getting hands in the soil, using all the senses to explore whats growing here....

Community organisations like yours are absolutely vital for resilience in these times..the more we can all weave what we do together, the stronger our communities will be for generations to come - thank you!

Aways welcome to come again! Volunteer sessions every Friday apart from the third week of the month when we meet on a Saturday. See you in the garden! πŸͺ± πŸ¦‹πŸŒΏ

The first monthly Saturday work party of the summer and what a productive morning πŸͺπŸŒ±

It's this week and we all know the positive effects of gardening. With a garden full of beautiful abundance, the soundtrack of birdsong and a strong sense of community - Tregovenek definitely lifts the spirits of everyone who shares this special place πŸ’š

We always like to share learning too and we love it when Klaudia van Gool Permaculture joins us for the morning - we were treated to a masterclass in managing the herbs in the medicinal garden beds and a recap on the uses of some of these amazing plants 🌿

Other opportunities included 🌼

πŸͺ± Weekly worm guardian duties as the wormery gears up for the summer months and will provide us with magical castings to super drive crop production πŸͺ„

πŸ… Finishing planting tomatoes in the polytunnel and greenhouse.

🌱 Tending seedlings and sowing more seeds to create abundance throughout the year.

🧀 Weeding the beds and paths - our 10 minute speed w**d at the start of the session is working wonders πŸ’ͺ

πŸͺš Continuing to make progress on the field kitchen.

🌻 Sieving our homemade compost - black gold for our growing systems - simply the best πŸ‘Œ

We're back to our Friday sessions next week from 9.30 to 12.30. Like to join us? Contact [email protected] to find out more.

It's and the hedges at Tregovenek are looking so fresh, green and full of wildflowers in the May sunshine πŸŒΏβ˜€οΈ πŸ‘Œ

We took some time out at the start of this week's work party to reflect on our wonderful hedgerows, the wildlife they support, the shelter they bring and the wild food and medicinal herbal abundance they provide πŸ¦πŸ›πŸπŸŒΌ

Then it was onto the 'opportunities' for the day...

πŸ… Planting tomato plants in the polytunnel and lots of vegetables in the outside beds 🌱

🌻 The new cut flower garden is really starting to take shape and the sweet peas are in the ground πŸͺ

βš’οΈ Continuing work on the field shelter, making a start on the field kitchen

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ³ Preparing a wonderful shared lunch, including some amazing colourful dishes from our own garden produce πŸ₯—

What a fabulous morning!

⭐ Just a quick reminder that next week's work party is the first of our monthly summer Saturday sessions (instead of our usual Friday ones) from 9.30 - 12.30. We would love you to join us! Please email [email protected] for more information about how to get involved πŸ’š

Wonderful to see so many volunteers at our Friday work party this week and some precious moments of wildlife connection too πŸ’š

πŸŒ±πŸ… All hands on deck for the poly tunnel transformation from winter salad to summer crops, and what a difference!

It was a transition approach, leaving some roots of the previous crop in the ground to benefit the soil systems, saving some plants for seeds to collect later in the year and retaining the herbs and edible flowers that are perfect for pollinators and beautiful too 🌼🐝

πŸͺπŸ’ͺ Great work compost team, moving and spreading our very own compost to nurture the polytunnel crops during the summer abundance.

πŸͺ±πŸ₯¬ All the organic material from the polytunnel (minus the bindw**d) went straight back into the compost bins. We love a circular system at Tregovenek and zero waste too πŸ‘Œ

🎢🐦 As usual we were serenaded by beautiful bird song and it was one of those special moments of nature connection when an inquisitive robin parent join us in the polytunnel to collect food for their little ones πŸ›

Lovely to see a slowworm too, making the garden their home 🏑
