Sick to death of the small minded vandals who’ve been to trash our work at again 😡🤬

For the second time, vandals have targeted and destroyed some of the trees we planted along the

Because of this senseless malice, we have made the difficult decision that we can’t justify replanting a third time. There’s a lot of people’s time, money and energy gone into this. very kindly donated towards replanting after the first years vandalism

Some trees are still growing and we’ll leave them to see what happens, hopefully some will get established, but we can’t keep replanting just to provide wood for fires (it’s wet green wood and won’t give off any heat anyway)

Everyone needs to understand the gravity of what these vandals have done. These trees weren’t just for show. They were planted to stabilize the banks and prevent the Ullswater Way from eroding and completely washing out. IF, and there’s every chance in the future that the footpath could wash out, there won’t be a quick fix. In reality the footpath could be closed for a long time

I’d ask that if you see anyone trashing the area, or deliberately leaving gates open so the sheep can get in and eat the trees please let us know so we can see what is salvageable

Thank you to all the decent folk out there who look after and appreciate this amazing place, I’m sorry to have to post this

Our landscapes are so complex, so how do we balance the needs of people, heritage and communities with that of wildlife and nature?

For us it’s about finding balance, wetlands and ponds in poor land which allows dragonflies, butterflies and wading birds to thrive 🦋🦆

Restoring and replanting hedgerows to connect habitats together once more 🦔🌳

Improving hay meadows so that they work for nature and farming 🌻🌸

Re-wiggling and repairing rivers where appropriate, so that they can work for the Salmon and Trout, temporarily hold floodwater, but in drier times provide grazing and grass 🐟🐑🐄

It’s a huge undertaking but we’re so grateful to everyone who helps make this community what it is 🙏

Spent the day looking at nearly 300 years of water management above Glenridding

Led by Warren Allison whose knowledge of the mining history is unbelievable, it’s been a brilliant day

Explored historic leats, old dams, ruined infrastructure and remnants of cutting edge hydro electricity creation from the late 1800’s

In awe of the hard life they led living and working up there in all conditions- humbling to learn more about the industry that built Glenridding

From a straight river to fantastic trout stream full of nature!

What 5 years of growth looks like:

Natural complexity: Meandering streams that slow down the flow

New habitats made: Wet woodland that teams with life

Working together: Proving that productive farming and ambitious conservation can work together 🚜🤝

This project is what we’re about. Fantastic nature rich habitats that help build resilient landscapes which work for our farming partners

Thank you so much and family for trusting us and letting us loose !

for the tenacity to dig in and make this happen!

We had the pleasure of showing students from around a site last week, to show how we need to manage land for multiple benefits.

Delivered properly we can have natural flood management, conservation and food production. Current ongoing wars will have an impact on food security in the UK.

land use framework states that land is a finite resource and we must use it wisely, here's a small example in action!

Great day at Keswick Market on Thursday, promoting how Lake District farming works with nature and produces the best food products!

There was a lot of support for our farmers, what they produce, and the value they bring to the Lake District landscape 👍

The locally produced food samples provided by showcased this perfectly 😋

Maddy has been part of the Agricultural Advisory Bursary that was organised by West Lakeland CIC and funded by

Participants have qualified in Sustainable Land Management alongside doing farm visits and reports, enabling local people to advise and support farmers and landowners 👏👏

Volume up !

4 years ago this was a rushy damp corner of a field that we made into a wildlife pond

Had a look today and there are mallard and teal and hundreds of frogs spawning, awesome sight. Nature friendly farming on top form !

Very cute and all, but the Roe deer are doing lots of damage in our area to newly planted and existing smaller trees

Lots of trees now displaying bark damage or being eaten off as they leave tree guards

If more wild venison became available to the market, would you buy it?
