Macmillan Cymru Wales Macmillan Cymru Wales provides help and support to people living with cancer in Wales.

In Wales Macmillan provides practical, emotional and financial help to people affected by cancer. We communicate their views and campaign on their behalf to Assembly Members and the Welsh Government. Our work is funded through events such as the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, and by people organising local fundraising events across Wales. Mae'r cymorth mae Macmillan yn ei ddarparu yn cael ei a***nnu nid yn unig trwy ddigwyddiadau mawr yn y DU, ond hefyd drwy godi a***n yn lleol. Os ydych chi'n cymryd rhan mewn digwyddiad sydd ar y rhestr, neu'n trefnu un drosoch chi'n hun, byddwch yn helpu pobl sy'n byw gyda chanser yn y DU.

Do you live in Wales and have experience of cancer, either personally or through someone close to you? We'd love to hear from you.

Your experiences can help shape the future of cancer care in Wales.

As a new National Cancer Strategy for Wales is being developed, it's vital that the voices of people affected by cancer are at the heart of the conversation. We're gathering experiences and insights to help inform our recommendations and ensure the new strategy reflects what matters most to people living with and beyond cancer.

Our first event took place earlier this week in Llandudno, and there are more opportunities to get involved across Wales. By sharing your experiences, you'll help influence the future of cancer services and support for people affected by cancer.

We were lucky enough to join Adams Bucketful of Hope Appeal recently, at their centre in the heart of rural Pembrokeshire, to celebrate three decades of a small charity making a huge difference.

Powered by its volunteers, or ‘bucketeers’, many of whom have a personal experience of cancer or work in cancer care, the centre has become like a second home to local people living with cancer and their families.

Having outgrown its high street location, the charity has set its sights on creating an even bigger and lasting legacy for the future. They’re raising £2 million to transform a derelict building into the Bucketful Centre – a dedicated cancer support and wellbeing centre that will meet the needs of the local community for many more decades to come.

At the heart of the charity is the unstoppable force that is Chris Evans-Thomas MBE. She’s tirelessly led Adam’s Bucketful of Hope in memory of her son Adam, who died from leukaemia aged 35.

We’re proud to work alongside local groups and organisations, like Adam’s Bucketful of Hope, who know their communities best. By listening to what matters to people locally, we can better understand what they need and connect more people to the right support, closer to home.

Roedden ni’n ddigon ffodus i ymuno ag elusen Adam’s Bucketful of Hope yn ddiweddar yn eu canolfan yn nghanol cefn gwlad Sir Benfro i ddathlu tri degawd o elusen fach yn gwneud gwahaniaeth enfawr.

Wedi’i phweru gan ei gwirfoddolwyr neu ei ‘bucketeers’, y mae gan lawer ohonynt brofiad personol o ganser neu o weithio ym maes gofal canser, mae’r ganolfan wedi dod yn ail gartref i bobl leol sy’n byw gyda chanser a’u teuluoedd.

Ar ôl tyfu’n rhy fawr ar gyfer ei lleoliad ar y stryd fawr, mae’r elusen yn llygadu creu gwaddol mwy a pharhaol ar gyfer y dyfodol. Maen nhw’n codi £2 filiwn i drawsnewid adeilad adfeiliedig yn The Bucketful Centre – canolfan cymorth canser a llesiant ymroddedig a fydd yn bodloni gofynion y gymuned leol am lawer o flynyddoedd i ddod.

Wrth galon yr elusen yw grym diatal sef Chris Evans-Thomas MBE. Yn ddiflino, mae hi wedi arwain elusen Adam’s Bucketful of Hope er cof am ei mab, Adam, a fu farw o lewcemia yn 35 oed.

Rydyn ni’n falch o weithio ochr yn ochr â grwpiau a sefydliadau lleol, megis Adam’s Bucketful of Hope, sy’n adnabod eu cymunedau orau. Trwy wrando ar yr hyn sy’n bwysig i bobl leol, gallwn ddeall yr hyn y mae ei angen arnynt yn well a chysylltu mwy o bobl â’r cymorth cywir, yn nes at adref.

This story covers the topic of su***de that some people may find difficult to watch.

“My cancer diagnosis was affecting me more mentally than it was physically.”

Spending time outdoors can have a powerful impact on our health and wellbeing.

We spent the day at Yarm Wellness Centre, one of our community partners, with the National Garden Scheme to celebrate an incredible milestone – the National Garden Scheme has raised £20 million for people affected by cancer.

From garden visits and homemade cakes to coffee and conversations, every donation helps us continue to be there for people living with cancer.

A huge thank you to the National Garden Scheme and everyone who has supported this amazing partnership over the years.

Visit the National Garden Scheme website to find a garden near you this summer.

If you need support, we are here for you. Our Support Line is open every day (8am - 8pm) on: 0808 808 00 00. You can also join our Online Community, which has over 80,000 members and speak to others going through a similar experience 💚

A community that’s still changing lives 20 years later. What could you do as a Macmillan Professional? 💚

Earlier this month, we proudly supported a special celebration and educational event for a Lymphoedema Support Group in Wrexham.

The group was founded in 2006 by a Macmillan Professional who successfully applied for £500 of funding to create a dedicated support network for people living with lymphoedema.

Over the past two decades, the group has gone from strength to strength, providing invaluable support, information and a sense of community for its members.

Marking its 20th anniversary, this event brought together support group members and healthcare professionals for a day of learning, reflection and celebration. Members shared their personal experiences of living with lymphoedema with a wide range of professionals while highlighting the impact the group has had on their lives.

“The day was fantastic, with excellent presentations and lots of engagement from professionals and those with lived experience. It's wonderful to see the strength of the support group after so many years and the continued dedication of the committee and Macmillan professionals.”

This story is a powerful reminder of the lasting impact Macmillan Professionals can have. What started with one professional's idea and a small grant has grown into a thriving community that continues to support and empower people today.

We know, every day, health and social care professionals go above and beyond. They bring compassion, expertise, and resilience to support people living with cancer. It’s so important that those doing this vital work feel supported too.

That’s why Macmillan has launched a free Macmillan Membership for professionals who support people living with cancer. Whether you’re a nurse, physiotherapist, dietitian, speech therapist, or part of the wider care community, you’re welcome to join us.

Cymuned sy’n parhau i newid bywydau 20 mlynedd yn ddiweddarach. Beth allech chi ei wneud fel Gweithiwr Proffesiynol Macmillan? 💚

Yn gynharach y mis hwn, roeddem yn falch o gefnogi dathliad arbennig a digwyddiad addysgol ar ran Grŵp Cymorth Lymffoedema yn Wrecsam. Sefydlwyd y grŵp yn 2006 gan Weithiwr Proffesiynol Macmillan a gyflwynodd gais llwyddiannus am £500 o gyllid i greu rhwydwaith cymorth ymroddedig ar gyfer pobl sy’n byw gyda lymffoedema.

Dros y ddau ddegawd diwethaf, mae’r grŵp wedi mynd o nerth i nerth gan ddarparu cymorth amhrisiadwy, gwybodaeth ac ymdeimlad o gymuned ar gyfer ei aelodau.

Gan gofnodi 20 mlynedd ers ei sefydlu, daeth y digwyddiad hwn ag aelodau o’r grŵp cymorth a gweithwyr proffesiynol ym maes gofal iechyd ynghyd am ddiwrnod o ddysgu, myfyrio a dathlu. Rhannodd aelodau eu profiadau personol o fyw gyda lymffoedema ag ystod eang o weithwyr proffesiynol gan bwysleisio’r effaith y mae’r grŵp wedi’i chael ar eu bywydau.

“Roedd y diwrnod yn wych, cawsom gyflwyniadau ardderchog a llawer o ymgysylltu gan weithwyr proffesiynol a’r rhai sydd â phrofiad bywyd. Roedd gweld nerth y grŵp ar ôl cynifer o flynyddoedd yn wych yn ogystal ag ymroddiad parhaus y pwyllgor a’r gweithwyr proffesiynol Macmillan.”

Mae’r stori hon yn ffordd gryf o’n hatgoffa am yr effaith barhaol y gall Gweithwyr Proffesiynol Macmillan ei chael. Mae’r hyn a ddechreuodd fel syniad un gweithiwr proffesiynol wedi tyfu’n gymuned ffyniannus sy’n parhau i gefnogi a grymuso pobl heddiw. Rydym yn gwybod bod gweithwyr proffesiynol ym meysydd iechyd a gofal cymdeithasol yn mynd y tu hwnt i’r disgwyl bob dydd.

Maent yn cynnig tosturi, arbenigedd a gwydnwch i gefnogi pobl sy’n byw gyda chanser. Mae’n bwysig iawn bod y bobl sy’n cyflawni’r gwaith hanfodol hwn yn teimlo eu bod wedi’u cefnogi hefyd. Dyna pam bod Macmillan wedi lansio cynllun Aelodaeth Macmillan am ddim i weithwyr proffesiynol sy’n cefnogi pobl sy’n byw gyda chanser. Os ydych chi’n nyrs, yn ffisiotherapydd, yn ddietegydd, yn therapydd lleferydd, neu’n rhan o’r gymuned ofal ehangach, mae croeso i chi ymuno â ni.

Amongst the noise and bustle of the Royal Welsh Show this week, we caught up with John, a fencing contractor from rural Denbighshire who is living with terminal cancer.

Yet John continues to work, remains positive, and does all he can to help raise awareness of the distinct challenges cancer can create for people in Wales’ rural communities.

That is why together with John, and our partners The Farming Community Network we launched a new guide for farming families affected by cancer – a guide which has been written by farmers, for farmers.

From struggling to take time away from the farm, to having to travel long distances for diagnosis and treatment, we know rural communities don’t always get the care they need.

But with the help of John, and partnerships like the Rural Communities Cancer Project, we want to help everyone with cancer get the care and support they need, where and when they need it the most.

For that, we really can’t thank John enough for his bravery, his generosity and everything he is doing to help.

You can download the guide on FCN’s website here: https://fcn.org.uk/cancersupport/

Ymhlith sŵn a chyffro Sioe Frenhinol Cymru yr wythnos hon, cawsom gyfle i ddal i fyny â John, contractiwr ffensys o gefn gwlad Sir Ddinbych sy’n byw gyda chanser terfynol.

Er hynny, mae John yn parhau i weithio, i gadw agwedd gadarnhaol ac i wneud popeth o fewn ei allu i helpu i godi ymwybyddiaeth o’r heriau penodol y gall canser eu creu ar gyfer pobl yng nghymunedau gweledig Cymru.

Dyna pam ein bod ni, ar y cyd â John a’n partneriaid, Y Rhwydwaith Cymuned Ffermio, wedi lansio canllaw newydd ar gyfer teuluoedd ffermio y mae canser wedi effeithio arnynt – mae’n ganllaw sydd wedi cael ei ysgrifennu gan ffermwyr, ar gyfer ffermwyr.

O brofi trafferthion o ran treulio amser i ffwrdd o’r fferm i orfod teithio’n bell i gael diagnosis a thriniaeth, rydym yn gwybod nid yw cymunedau gwledig bob amser yn cael y gofal y mae ei angen arnynt.

Ond, trwy gymorth John a phartneriaethau megis Prosiect Canser Cymunedau Gwledig, rydym yn dymuno helpu pawb sydd â chanser i gael y gofal a’r gefnogaeth y mae eu hangen arnynt, ble bynnag a phryd bynnag y mae eu hangen arnynt fwyaf.

A, thrwy gymorth pobl fel John, rydym yn gweithio i sicrhau bod cymorth a gofal canser yng Nghymru yn cyd-fynd â realiti bywydau pobl.

Today’s announcement of a National Cancer Plan for Wales is a landmark moment for people living with cancer.

At Macmillan, we’ve long called for a plan that tackles inequities, improves outcomes and ensures everyone affected by cancer can access the right care and support, whoever they are or wherever they live.

We welcome this important step and stand ready to work with the Welsh Government, the NHS, people affected by cancer and partners to help turn this ambition into real change.

Mae cyhoeddiad heddiw am Gynllun Canser Cenedlaethol i Gymru yn gam pwysig ar gyfer pobl sy’n byw gyda chanser.

Ym Macmillan, ers amser hir, rydym wedi galw am gynllun sy’n mynd i’r afael ag anghydraddoldebau, sy’n gwella canlyniadau ac sy’n sicrhau bod pawb y mae canser yn effeithio arnynt yn gallu cael mynediad at y gofal a’r cymorth cywir, pwy bynnag y maen nhw neu ble bynnag y maen nhw’n byw.

Rydym yn croesawu’r cam pwysig hwn ac rydym yn sefyll yn barod i weithio gyda Llywodraeth Cymru, y GIG, pobl y mae canser wedi effeithio arnynt a phartneriaid i helpu i droi’r uchelgais hwn yn newid go iawn.

“It’s incredibly powerful to see such a simple idea change behaviour” says Rhian Smith, and she really couldn’t be more right.

We all deserve peace and respect when the time comes. But in busy hospital wards full of noise and interruptions it can be difficult to achieve.

That is where Rhian and the Hospital Palliative Care Team at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board come in.

As finalists in our Service Innovator awards at our upcoming Professionals Excellence Awards, they are working tirelessly to improve things for people nearing the end of life – introducing Every Moment Matters, a visual symbol that discreetly signals when a patient is dying and needs a calm, dignified environment.

Developed with ward staff, non-clinical teams and families, the reaction to Every Moment Matters speaks for itself – with 100% of families feeling that the dandelion clock symbol helps create a more peaceful atmosphere for their loved ones.

Low-cost and gaining national interest for its ability to gently transform end-of-life care, it is an innovation that is all about helping staff to “provide the calm, respectful care patients and families deserve.”

*********

“Mae gweld syniad syml yn newid ymddygiad yn rhywbeth mor rymus,” meddai Rhian Smith, ac ni allai fod yn fwy cywir.

Mae pob un ohonom yn haeddu heddwch a pharch pan ddaw’r amser. Ond, mewn wardiau ysbyty prysur sy’n llawn sŵn a tharfu, gall cyflawni hyn fod yn anodd.

Dyna rôl Rhian a Thîm Gofal Lliniarol yr Ysbyty ym Mwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Caerdydd a’r Fro.

Maent wedi cyrraedd rownd derfynol ein Gwobrau Arloeswyr Gwasanaeth yn ein Gwobrau Rhagoriaeth Gweithwyr Proffesiynol sydd ar ddod ac maent yn gweithio’n ddiflino i wella pethau ar gyfer pobl sy’n nesáu at ddiwedd eu hoes – trwy gyflwyno Mae Pob Moment o Bwys, sef symbol gweledol sy’n rhoi arwydd gynnil i nodi pan fydd claf yn marw ac mae angen amgylchedd tawel, urddasol arno.

Wedi’i ddatblygu ar y cyd â staff y ward, timau nad ydynt yn rhai clinigol a theuluoedd, mae’r ymateb i gynllun Mae Pob Moment o Bwys yn siarad dros ei hun wrth i 100% o deuluoedd deimlo bod symbol cloc dant y llew yn helpu i greu awyrgylch mwy heddychlon ar gyfer eu hanwyliaid.

Gan fod yn gost isel ac ennyn diddordeb yn genedlaethol o ganlyniad i’w allu i drawsnewid gofal diwedd oes yn dawel, mae’n gynllun arloesol sy’n ymwneud â helpu aelodau staff i “ddarparu’r gofal tawel, parchus y mae cleifion a theuluoedd yn ei haeddu.”
