Hi folks, I'm Natasha and I run the page for the PTA however I do not attend the meetings and know very little about the PTA.
Due to the number of complaints about tickets for the Christmas dance the PTA has sent out a response through Facebook comments.
In summary a disco cannot be held without school staff. Staff will only attend one night for the disco. Which is why there is only a one night disco with limited tickets.
As an ex teacher myself I feel this is completely fair enough as they are not paid and and already work so many hours over their contract.
Also the PTA are incredibly upset for being blamed and harrased for the lack of tickets for the disco and it looks like might not have a PTA next year because people will just leave.
What would be brilliant is if people would join the PTA so that perhaps there are more events and issues could be discussed with more folks.
Here is a response about the tickets for the Christmas stands from Sally Treasurer for PTA. All the posts are voluntary and people put a lot of time and effort into it
Good morning, I am Treasurer if the PTA since 2008 AND I work full time with 4 children and 2 elderly parents!
The PTA emailed Mrs Cook in May asking for confirmation of the date of dance and whether it would be one or more after last years issues.
She made it clear on more than one occasion that staff only would do one evening and that is why the dance would have to stay as S1-6
Unfortunately the majority of responses on Haddington Facebook imply that it is the PTA’s organized event and that the numbers could be increased if there were more parent helpers for PTA.
WE can’t run a disco without the staff, WE can’t deal with behaviour issues, WE can’t & don’t have access to contacts for parents in case of emergencies
All these things and insurance Etc are for school staff so loads more parents won’t change that even though we have asked for more parent helpers on the school website, texting, etc . Please note that the minutes ARE posted on school website under parent counci if you all cared to look.
The PTA organised an S1-3 dance 3 or 4 years ago- we didn’t even sell 300 tickets. The Charity committee disco earlier this term didn’t sell out either..The numbers have been limited by Health and Safety policies- Not by the PTA.
There may not be a committee this time next year because you this kind of abuse so there probably won’t be another Christmas dance.
Our thanks go to those for their positive comments.
