Penarth Lodge No. 4113 – Commemorative ServiceOn behalf of Penarth Lodge No. 4113, herewith an invitation to join us for a Commemorative Service at Penarth Masonic Hall, 55 Stanwell Road, Penarth, on Monday, 9 November, commencing at 7.00 pm.

The service is being held to remember and honour those who have given their lives in the service of our country, as well as those whose lives have been touched by conflict and sacrifice.

This is intended to be a Penarth Lodge service, opened warmly to members of our local community who wish to come together in remembrance.

Our intention is for it to be a simple, meaningful and inclusive occasion, rather than a more formal Masonic or Provincial function.

If you or your brethren families and friends would like to attend, I would be grateful if you could kindly RSVP in advance, ideally providing an indication of numbers, so that we can make the necessary arrangements for seating and refreshments.

Please RSVP to Gordon at your earliest convenience and in any case before 5pm on Tuesday 3rd November.

As we get ready to celebrate the Centenary of the Penarth Masonic Hall, let's take you back all the way back to the year the doors first opened: 1927!

Ever wondered what life was like in Britain exactly 100 years ago? Here is what was making headlines (and how much it cost!) back in '27:

SUPPORT THE GURKHAS WELFARE TRUST – SATURDAY 5 SEPTEMBER

Penarth Masonic Hall 10am–4pm Free Entry

Residents of Penarth and the surrounding area are warmly invited to attend our fundraiser for the Gurkhas Welfare Trust at Penarth Masonic Hall on Saturday 5th September. 10 am to 4.0pm

There will be tea, coffee, biscuits and cakes available to purchase, with the bar also open. A raffle will also be held, with all money raised donated to the Gurkha Welfare Trust

The event is an opportunity to learn more about the Gurkhas, their remarkable history and their proud relationship with the United Kingdom and Wales.

Looking ahead to 2027

Next year marks the centenary of Penarth Masonic Hall. Throughout 2027 there will be many more opportunities for local residents to visit the building, discover its fascinating history and learn more about the people and organisations who have been part of its story.

The start of the Masonic season is almost upon us. Here's a quick update on our September diary:

Thursday 24th Dinam Lodge,

Monday 28th Crystal Lodge.

During next few weeks, work continues on repairs to roof & exterior pine end wall to make watertight, installing a mezzanine floor in stage cupboard room. New mood lighting installed in Barbarians Lounge.

In 2027, Penarth Masonic Hall will celebrate 100 years within the community of Penarth.

Our splendid elegant 1927 art deco heritage building has hosted so many functions & dinners & weddings.

It was very active during WWII with blackout whist to keep the community together, and with commemorative memorials contained inside to the fallen of both world wars and a Peace Memorial.

We will have a full programme events to welcome in the community, with Cadw Open Heritage days, market days, centenary events with choirs, a teddy bear picnic, a Centenary Dinner and so much more.

This is the perfect year to hold your celebratory event, an anniversary, a birthday, a Wedding, a sports club presentation evening, a charity ball, a ballroom tea dance, a society community gathering.

Whilst it's a quieter period for functions, our team of volunteers are very busy maintaining our splendid elegant 1927 art deco heritage building.

You may have noticed scaffolding on the rear external wall as we solve the internal damp pe*******on into the Grand Temple behind the Worshipful Master's chair.

With weathering over a long period, we are investigating & working on the roof tiles and soffit. Then we will clean off what's left of the paint on the wall, treat with damp proofing, then repaint.

We are also exploring investing in solar panels on the flat roof to reduced our energy costs.

Inside the Hall, the Barbarians Lounge has had new mood lighting and monitor screens installed by Chris Punter. We are looking forward to you all seeing this and a lot of other clever, joined up mood lighting that has been installed.

Work is being undertaken this week to improve our storage with mezzanine space in our stage storerooms, by Allun Jones, Chris Punter, & Gordon Shumack.

The Senior Warden plinth has been extended to create more space for the artefacts, by Frank O'Brien

Meanwhile we have a major back office digitisation project ongoing as we install new systems to link up and sharpen our booking systems and other modernisation projects, led by Kieran Hearne.

The front of hall has had wonderful flowers displays throughout the Summer with thanks to all who have maintained the watering regime.

This is just a snapshot of the tremendous work that continues to happen by a band of volunteers who we really appreciate and are largely unsung and aren't looking for praise. They all share love for our wonderful Hall.

We welcome anyone who has a few spare hours a week and wants to help. More news updates and pictures over the coming weeks.

Thanks to all who came to our Indie Collectives Market at Penarth Masonic Hall yesterday. It was a great delight to welcome so many near neighbours. You certainly like cookies as Cookie Cookie sold out!! We loved these unique paper flowers, which can be a spectacular addition to add colour to weddings and dinner events, and matching table decorations. News about next market coming soon.
