As part of this years Poppy Appeal in Penarth, there will be a new Poppy Installation appearing on Windsor Road. The tree adjacent to the Poppy Caravan, will become Penarth’s “Tree of Remembrance”. The tree trunk will be covered in knitted & crocheted Poppies, with large poppies in the branches referencing Penarth’s contribution to the two World Wars and beyond. Up to this point, there has been several groups in Penarth, All Saints Church knitting group, Penarth Ageing Well knitters among others, Knitting and Crocheting Poppies for us. The total at present stands at over 1,000! I would now like to open this up to the Community, so that we can all be involved in this act of Remembrance. If you can knit, crochet or can just donate some Red wool, there will be drop off boxes in the following places;
Snells Newsagents
Specsavers
St Fagin’s Pub
Knights Chemist (Windsor Road)
I will be collecting Poppies weekly and they will be mounted on the trunk of the tree at the beginning of the Poppy Appeal. Once the Appeal starts, you will be able to “sponsor” a Poppy for £2, leaving either your name or the name of the person you wish to honour. This will be available at the Poppy Caravan, and the list will be updated regularly. This has received PTC & Vale of Glamorgan Council approval, and the tree will not be damaged in any way, and the poppies will be collected in at the end of the Appeal, washed and reused next year. If you would like anymore information, please contact me. Also, if you have any information on the contribution that Penarth has played, please inbox me and let me know. Lets make this a real COMMUNITY PROJECT. Thank you
