Reflection – Behind the Scenes at AGA
Sunday 7th June was another reminder that community work is built one box, one volunteer, and one act of kindness at a time.
As we stood outside our storage facility surrounded by donations, cardboard boxes, books, clothing, and essential items destined for communities in The Gambia and beyond, I was reminded that what people often see is the final delivery, but rarely the work that takes place behind the scenes.
Every box packed represents someone who cared enough to give. Every volunteer who turns up gives not only their time but also their energy, commitment, and love. There are no headlines for sorting donations, breaking down boxes, lifting, carrying, organizing, and preparing shipments, yet these are the moments that make the difference.
Looking at the activity, I felt grateful. Grateful for the volunteers who continue to show up. Grateful for the donors who trust us with their contributions. Grateful for our AGA Village, where many hands come together with a shared purpose: to make the world a little better for someone else.
Community work is not always glamorous. Sometimes it looks like a garage full of boxes and a group of dedicated people working quietly in service. But within those boxes are opportunities, resources, hope, and the possibility of changing lives.
Sunday reminded me that impact begins long before the donations reach their destination. It begins with people choosing to care.
