Pangbourne Village Hall will be awash with colour this month as Pangbourne Art Group invite visitors to enjoy more than 100 paintings.
Opening 10am to 5pm on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th October, the annual exhibition will showcase the work of the group's enthusiastic community of about 30 artists. Expect a wonderfully varied display, with members working in oils, acrylics, watercolour and, more recently, linocut printing.
The group's interests are just as varied as its members, with artists free to explore whatever subjects inspire them. And while there isn't a formal tutor, there is plenty of experience within the group to help those who are finding their feet. That doesn't mean the more experienced artists stop learning, either. Recently, the group invited professional artist Elizabeth Baldin to demonstrate new watercolour techniques-particularly useful for several accomplished oil and acrylic painters who were less confident with the medium.
It's this sharing of skills and enthusiasm that is at the heart of the group. Some members have been painting together for 20 years, while new faces continue to join, and there are regular social events through the year. When the weather allows, a keen core group also takes their easels outside for some plein air painting.
One memorable outing this summer saw members tackling the heat at Wallingford Bridge. Starting early, they found shade and settled down to paint the views before, by lunchtime, moving across the river to the pub. Research, you might say, was duly completed.
The group have also been busy introducing themselves to the wider community, with a successful stall at Pangbourne Village Fete and sessions at the Art Cafe on Whitchurch Hill helping to encourage new members.
Now it's the turn of the annual exhibition to welcome visitors. Alongside the paintings, there will be greetings cards to browse and buy, while tea, coffee and homemade cakes will provide the perfect excuse to linger a little longer.
