Paisley Society of Model Engineers Paisley SME have met in Barshaw Park since 1972, where we offer train rides for visitors to the park and promote interest in model engineering as a hobby.

The society was founded in 1955 as the Rolls Royce Model Engineering Club, part of the Rolls Royce Welfare Organisation. The club met at and operated a 5" guage track at Crookston Road Recreation Ground until 1971. The sale in 1971 of the Crookston Road site for housing lead to the society moving to Barshaw Park in 1972. Passenger services began on the rebuilt track in 1973, and have operated every summer since.

Last train to Barshaw Central!

Today was the final day of our 2026 season. Thank you as always to everyone who has come for a trip around the park, chatted on the platform or just watched the trains go by.

The club remains active throughout the year and is always looking for new members, no engineering experience or background required. If you would like to get involved please get in touch.

We will still be out on the track over the autumn and winter, carrying out essential maintenance and testing equipment.

Our next running day will be the Jingle Bell Fun Run on Sunday 6th December, and if all goes to plan we will open for the 2027 season on Saturday 27th March.

Weather permitting we'll be open today for our last scheduled running day of the season.

Unfortunately the rain has won again today.

Thanks to everyone who made it for a trip on train today. Weather permitting we will back out on track next Saturday, for what will probably be out last running day of the season.

Thanks to everyone who came for a trip round the park today.

We will not be able to run trains next week as we are exhibiting at the Model and Hobby show at Mackinnon Mills, Coatbridge.

We'll be open again in Barshaw Park on Saturday 18th, weather permitting.
