Renfrewshire Food Train

Renfrewshire Food Train The Food Train provides a range of vital services to older people living in Scotland.

Local volunteers provide weekly deliveries of fresh groceries to older people experiencing difficulties doing their weekly grocery shopping, ensuring they can eat well. Any older person aged 65 and over living in Renfrewshire who has difficulty in doing their grocery shopping due to ill health, disability, frailty or mobility problems can enjoy the benefits of their local Food Train.

We were delighted to attend the Scottish Parliament last week with SCVO and Volunteer Scotland as part of the campaign.

It was perfect timing to promote our 2025/2026 manifesto asks to the Scottish Government and to highlight our 2026–2031 Strategy which can be viewed/read here: https://thefoodtrain.co.uk/about/influencing-change/

Sharing Warmth, Meals and Kindness This Christmas

It’s a really busy time of year here at the Food Train as we work hard to ensure all our members receive meals, shopping, and friendly visits throughout the festive period.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors and the dedication of our amazing volunteers, we’re able to bring warmth, dignity, and kindness to people in our communities who may be isolated, unwell, or without family nearby.

This year, some of our volunteers will even be visiting members on Christmas Day, delivering a home-cooked Christmas dinner and, just as importantly, some much-needed company.

Your support this Christmas will help us reach the next person who needs us. Please consider donating whatever you can, or give someone a truly meaningful Christmas gift by making a donation here https://thefoodtrain.enthuse.com/cp/5333e/donation #!/

Thank you for helping us spread kindness this festive season.

We are supporting Volunteer Scotland’s campaign.

Dieter and Peter’s friendship is proof that volunteering changes lives.

Through our Meal Maker project, Dieter shares meals and companionship with Peter, building connection, laughter, and support. Across Scotland, 74,000 people volunteer to help older people stay connected.

Without volunteers, how many friendships would we lose?

Today we launch our manifesto asks to the Scottish Government.

Backed by our members who have said loudly and clearly, “We deserve greater dignity and independence”, our calls to action aim to ensure every older person in Scotland can eat well, age well and live well at home.

We believe these five asks are bold but achievable:

1. Ringfence funding for community-based food access for older people.
2. Enshrine the right to food for older people in Scots law.
3. Launch a national malnutrition prevention and screening programme.
4. Invest in volunteers and community-led support.
5. Involve older people in food and health policy design.

Together, we can build a Scotland where older people have the dignity, independence, and support they deserve.
