Apparently we’re now at the stage where child protection comes with:
💰 TikTok gifts
💰 200+ paid subscribers
💰 Wish lists
💰 TikTok Shop
💰 Donations
🚁 a bloody DRONE.
The proof we’ve been shown is that if someone “runs”, the drone could apparently be used to check gardens and see where they go. this isn’t Call of Duty. 😭
And before anyone says it’s for the kids aye, we get that.
‼️Everyone understands the importance of protecting children ‼️
when you’re asking people for money, gifts and equipment while presenting yourself as an awareness team, people are perfectly entitled to ask where the money is going and why you need it.
Especially when we’ve been shown information relating to a survivor of abuse who is understood to have received compensation through Redress Scotland, that they were being asked about money towards a drone and other equipment. That deserves questions.
Survivors aren’t walking bank machines 🤦🏻♂️
But repeatedly approaching vulnerable people about money and equipment? That’s where eyebrows start going up. 👀
And then we’ve got the TikTok Shop.
Look, we’ve been doing awareness work for years without needing people to fund our latest shopping list. No subscription fee. No “send us gifts”. No “buy us a drone”. No passing the hat around to survivors.
Just awareness work.
yes, we’ve also been shown information raising concerns about people connected with Public Accountability and alleged links to convicted offenders. if you’ve got screenshots, messages and information being brought to you, you’re allowed to ask questions.
To the people saying:
“BUT THEY’RE DOING IT FOR THE CHILDREN!”
Then surely transparency shouldn’t bother you.
If every penny is legitimate, explain it.
If survivors aren’t being pressured, explain it.
Simple.
Nobody is saying you can’t raise awareness.
Nobody is saying you can’t protest peacefully.
Nobody is saying you can’t have supporters.
We’re saying child protection shouldn’t become a TikTok fundraising exercise.
So before you send that gift,subscribe and send money towards an expensive gadget.
ASK QUESTIONS.
Because protecting children shouldn’t come with a checkout button⚠️
Children first.
Survivors first.
Transparency always.
Money? Not the reason we’re here. 💯
🙏 Parents and carers please keep checking in with your kids about online safety, privacy settings and who they’re communicating with online.
THAT is where the focus should be.
