Tor-VYBZ is officially 1 MONTH AWAY! 🎉

The whole team has been working so hard to bring Tor-VYBZ together, so we thought we would share where the idea actually came from.

Tor-VYBZ has been youth led from start to finish, the idea was born from one of our young staff members and now the whole festival is being run by out young leaders. On the day young people we work with will be doing every job needed to run a successful festival, from collecting donations on the door to managing the main stage, all overseen and supported by our amazing staff team.

Be sure to come down and enjoy the local grassroots artists who will be performing on our two stages, grab a drink and some food from the amazing local traders and enjoy what is sure to be an amazing day celebrating young people in Torbay and giving them a real opportunity to show what they can do!

A big thanks to The National Lottery Community Fund and Torbay Lottery grants for helping fund this event and making it happen!

See you on the 18th July!!

During Half Term, four members of the Sound Communities team travelled from Paignton to Hull to visit and it was worth every mile.

From music and counselling to dance, employment support, and even some competitive table tennis, every corner of the space was full of energy, creativity, and opportunity for young people.

What stood out most was seeing youth work that truly puts young people at the centre, empowering them to lead, create, and thrive.

A huge thank you to everyone at The Warren for the warm welcome, inspiration, and generosity and a big thanks to Global Fund for Children for making this possible. We left with plenty of ideas, admiration, and motivation for the future.

🌍 Help Tarik Reach South Africa for a Life-Changing Conservation Project! 🦏🐘

We're delighted to share that Tarik, one of our young people at Sound Communities, is fundraising for an exciting opportunity to travel to South Africa in August 2026 to take part in a wildlife conservation project as part of his Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award journey.

Tarik has worked incredibly hard to get to this point, showing real determination and commitment along the way. During his time with Sound Communities, he has developed a love of the outdoors and conservation, and this project is a fantastic opportunity for him to build on those interests while contributing to meaningful environmental work

We're incredibly proud of everything Tarik has achieved so far and would love to help him get one step closer to this goal. If you're able to support him, no matter how small the donation, it would be hugely appreciated.

Today is Power of Youth Day, a UK-wide celebration of young people’s leadership, social action and the difference young people make in their communities.
This year’s theme is Common Ground: recognising what connects us and creating space for young people to shape stronger communities.
At Sound Communities, we’re proud to be investing in young people’s ideas and supporting them into leadership roles.

In Torbay, we’re already seeing what happens when young people are trusted to lead: more hope, more aspiration, and more opportunities to connect through art, culture and creativity.

A brilliant example is Tor-VYBZ, Torbay’s first youth-led grassroots music festival, taking place on 18 July 2026 at Princess Gardens, Torquay.

Tor-VYBZ is about more than music. It’s about young people creating the kind of place they want to live in, perform in, belong to and be proud of.

That’s our common ground: backing young people not just as the leaders of tomorrow, but as changemakers today.

Torbay’s first youth-led, grassroots music festival is here! And we're running it!!

On the 18th July 2026 at The Banjo, Princess Gardens, Torquay -

Every day we work with talented young people who don’t get the opportunity to get on the stage and perform in front of the crowd, so we thought what better way to help them do this than by creating our very own festival?! AND most importantly, Tor-VYBZ will be run by young people, proving that Torbay can be a place for young people to thrive in the creative industries!

On the day you can expect to see 2 stages, with live music from 11:00 - 20:00. Including a final performance from a big headliner in the D&B scene!
We’ve also got some excellent local companies running the bar and food stalls so come and show your support by getting some tasty food & a drink or two! 🍔🍻

Wednesday must have been one of the hottest days of the year. And not just because it was 30 degrees, but because the Parkfield Open Day was firing on all cylinders!

The Boom Bus was booming, the bike track was flowing, the front lawn was full of fun for young people, and most importantly the skatepark was literally jamming!

Congrats to the young winner of the skate jam competition, Yuki, the only young woman to compete who really showed her skills around the park.

Young people of all ages shared the space with kindness, and a love for being active (from playing on the bouncy castle, to competing in the skate jam), and it was brill to see so many new and familiar faces all in one space.

Mark and Cal from Sound Comms worked with young people across all of the social groups to provide the music for the jam and plant the seeds (quite literally!) for a positive summer.

Young people told us they ‘loved the music’ and ‘would love to be involved with something like this again’ - keep your eyes peeled for another post in the next couple of days on that front!

The whole event was brilliantly organised, supported, and attended and really showcased the best of young people in the Bay. So, a big thanks to Parkfield for having us there, and to the lovely young people of Torbay who graciously shared their space with us!

Our outreach sessions at Parkfield Skatepark are funded by and Fund.
