In 1899 a new steam lifeboat was provided and the station's first motor lifeboat was commissioned in 1929. A new boat house and roller slipway were built at Hawker's cove for a second motor lifeboat in 1931. A further boathouse and 73 meter slipway ensued in 1967 and were later adapted for the station's Tyne class boat. Float to Live could save your life. Remember: - Tilt your head back with ears submerged - Relax and try to control your breathing - Use your hands to help you stay afloat - It's okay if your legs sink, we all float differently

Practice these steps at a supervised location, like a swimming pool or lifeguarded beach, so you know what to do in an emergency.

From all of us at Padstow RNLI Lifeboat, we extend our heartfelt condolences to our fellow search and rescue colleagues at Marine Rescue NSW, following the tragic incident in Ballina, Australia.

The loss of their two volunteers is felt on a global scale and is a sobering reminder of the immense danger search and rescue volunteers face every day at sea. We recognise the profound impact tragedies like this have on families, crews and communities. Our thoughts are with them all.

We honour the courage, commitment and selflessness of those involved, and of everyone who dedicates their lives to saving lives at sea. They will not be forgotten. Fair winds and following seas 💙

Last night was the darkest night ever experienced by Marine Rescue NSW.

Marine Rescue NSW volunteers answer the call for help 24/7 and last night six members from Marine Rescue Ballina did just that. They launched with a single mission, to save lives on the water and assist a yacht, reported to be in difficulty off the South Ballina break wall.

Tragically, two of our volunteers lost their lives during the response.

Marine Rescue NSW Commissioner Todd Andrews said the devastating loss is a solemn reminder of the risks faced by volunteers who serve their communities.

“These two men were serving their local community and have made the ultimate sacrifice to help others.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the families and loved ones of the deceased, their fellow crew members, the brave radio operators who handled the difficult communications during the incident, the entire Marine Rescue NSW family and the wider Ballina community during this incredibly difficult time.

“We are supporting our volunteers and their families through professional counselling and chaplaincy support.

“We ask that the privacy of those involved and their families be respected during this difficult time,” Commissioner Andrews said.

This year marks 25 years of RNLI lifeguards making beaches safer.

Since 2001, RNLI lifeguards in the south west have saved more than 1,000 lives and prevented countless tragedies in and near the water.

Heading into their 25th summer, RNLI lifeguards now patrol more than 245 beaches around the UK and Channel Islands, continuing to save more lives by sharing important safety advice to beachgoers and rescuing people in danger.

RNLI lifeguards will begin patrols on Treyarnon, Harlyn and Constantine beaches from 3 April 2026 for the Easter holidays. A total of 27 beaches in the south west will be patrolled over the two-week Easter period. Find your nearest RNLI lifeguarded beach: https://rnli.org/find-my-nearest/lifeguarded-beaches

Padstow RNLI volunteer crew launched on Saturday, 28 March at 1.59pm to reports of a catamaran with engine failure, 3 miles north west of Trevose.

The crew arrived on scene, and the Coxswain assessed the situation. The safest course of action was to take the stricken vessel under tow to the nearest suitable harbour.
