Thank You Millets Farm!

We had another bucket collection, this time at Millets Farm. We were very warmly welcomed by everyone there, and the visitors. Thank you to everyone who donated, Chris for giving up his time to help with the collection, and to Millets for hosting us. These collections really do make a difference, and go a long way in supporting us in our mission.

It’s !

The ducks came out to play for the Bicester walking group this week on their walk around Jubilee Lake. There were so many splashing in the water, it was really fun to watch. We also saw loads of fish too in between the lily pads. We finished our walk at the Nightingale Pub, where we had a refreshing drink and spoke about assisted shopping in Sainsbury’s, which some of our members are going to try out.

The Banbury walking group followed with their walk in Spiceball Park. We stopped at Lock 29 for a birthday picnic which was very nice and enjoyable. We walked through the very green park and flower meadows which are so nice this time of year. We spoke about our upcoming plans, including some trips and events in August, more information coming soon.

Thank you for another great week of walking, and we will see you again next Wednesday.

- a spot of gardening!

Our Touch Tours group saw us go to the Botanic Gardens this week, exploring the different green houses. The desert biome had loads of cacti and towering trees, the carnivorous plants one was really cool with Venus Fly Traps and other bug eaters, and finally the tropical house with the lily ponds and a rather lovely aroma. We toured the world of plants without leaving Oxford - a very fun trip overall.

Meanwhile, the Didcot and Thame groups had some calm catch ups. In Didcot we talked about upcoming trips like the Wallingford accessible boat trips in July and August (everyone is welcome), as well as the Art Exhibition which so far the feedback is really positive. In Thame we played some dominos, before having a quiz which ended 12:12 between “The 4 Ladies” and “The Bats”.

Thank you everyone for another great week, and see you all next week for more fun.

Budding Scientists!

Our CYP group had a brilliant time at the Oxford Science Museum, getting hands on with all their exhibits and interactive activities. There were some illusions and lights, water sections and even a planetarium where our group got to travel to Mars, the Moon, Neptune, and even made their own, craters and all. Here are some photos from our fun day out. Thank you everyone for coming.

“When I first joined My Vision Oxfordshire, one of my earliest projects was creating a wellbeing group in Didcot, at the Cornerstone. Since then, the group has blossomed. We’ve crafted coasters, worked with clay, created mosaicked pieces, made fabric bowls, and even drawn what we can see in our sessions. We’ve made Christmas cards and a huge variety of things in our wellbeing sessions. Now, we’re so excited to showcase it all in our exhibition: “So What Can You Actually See?” Until the end of July at the Cornerstone, we’re inviting everyone to step into the world of people with visual impairments.

Our interactive sessions let you explore through touch, finding objects, tracing lines, and drawing with simulated vision conditions. Plus, we have poems from our creative writing classes, audio pieces, and all the info about My Vision and how you can get involved. I can’t thank Eden and Jessie enough. They’ve been absolute rocks, helping me turn this dream into reality. And a huge thank you to Cornerstone for giving us this incredible platform. This is about raising awareness and celebrating the extraordinary things people with visual impairments can do. I can’t wait to see you there!”

!

Summer was nice while it lasted, but despite this temperamental weather we have still had some great Green Walks. Starting off, the Abingdon Walking Group enjoyed a nice long walk on the River Ock Trail. We managed 3 miles in just under an hour, stopping occasionally to watch the river and listen to the birds. It really is lovely being in nature.

The Witney Walking Group followed with a walk through the Leys to the Coffee Shed, our old go to. Despite the rain, we all had a great time talking about our plans, the next river boat trip, and Walk Oxford. In typical English fashion, the sun came out as we all said our goodbyes.

We hope you enjoyed these walks as much as us, and we will see you all for more in the next week.

We were very pleased to be at Headington Festival last Sunday and loved chatting to so many people about the work that we do. We were selling raffle tickets and asking people to guess the number of sweets in the jar, there were 541 if anyone was wondering. Thank you to everyone who had a go!

Here are a few photos.
