At Cabinet tomorrow Oxfordshire County Council will be voting on three proposed changes to the Adult Social Care Charging policy. Unlimited think the proposals are flawed and will make disabled people worse off. Read on to see what we are doing about it.

OCC want to
1. Change how much Disability Related Expenditure (DRE) an individual can claim.
2. Increase the cost for telecare (individual alarm systems for safety)
3. Introducing a flat rate charge for transport costs (for those who get Social Care)

We know the Council have to save money. We sympathise with the difficult choices they have to make. We have serious concerns that all three proposals push cost cutting decisions onto disabled people. We are particularly worried about the changes to DRE. We think this will make disabled people (who get Social Care) worse off at a time when the cost of living is hitting all of us hard. We have gone through all the Council papers for the meeting tomorrow and have picked several holes in their proposals. It is a bit long and complicated to go through here but if you want to know more get in touch and we can send you our paper. We are have sent our response to all Cabinet members (County Councillors) and one of our members is speaking at the meeting tomorrow (we get 3 minutes!).

We've been consulting with Oxfordshire County Council about accessibility around central Oxford. Following these discussions, we've been told that tactile dropped kerbs will be put in place in Beaumont Street and the rather dangerous grid there will be replaced. There are also plans to improve the crossing on Magdalen Street (near to The Store).

Unlimited Oxfordshire have contacted Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) to share your concerns about the online process for Disabled people to apply for congestion charge permits. OCC say they are working to make the service easier and are able to offer phone support.

We are pleased to see that some of the worst measures proposed to disability benefits have been revised, but we still have concerns about the impact of the welfare bill, particularly on new claimants. We will continue to campaign for fairness for all Disabled people. Thank you so much to everybody that responsed to our survey. We have written to all Oxfordshire MPs today, following your responses. A lively discussion at our monthly members meeting tonight as always. Lots to talk about. However we are very focussed on fighting proposed cuts to welfare and disability benefits. We are doing two things:
- responding to the Government consultation on their proposals called Pathways to Work https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/pathways-to-work-reforming-benefits-and-support-to-get-britain-working-green-paper

- lobbying all 7 Oxfordshire MPs about the impact on the daily lives of disabled people if these proposed cuts go ahead.
