COLD SPACE AT EAST OXFORD COMMUNITY CENTRE

The UK Health Security Agency and Met Office have issued multiple Heat Health Alerts this week, which are in effect until 11pm Friday 26 June. Temperatures could reach up to 40 degrees in Oxford on Wednesday and Thursday.

At East Oxford Community Centre, we have set up a Cold Space, an air-conditioned room, that can be accessed:

Wednesday 24th – First Floor Hall – 12pm to 6pm

Thursday 25th – First Floor Hall – 12pm to 6pm

Friday 26th – First Floor Hall – 12pm to 6pm

This creative workshop explores feminist translation practices, focusing on Catalan poetry. The workshop is free to attend and no prior knowledge of translation, or the Catalan language, is required to attend.

We are thrilled to congratulate the Oxford Chinese Community & Advice Centre (OCCAC) on their successful open day launch! 🎈 It was a vibrant celebration filled with delicious food, captivating performances, and beautiful crafts. We are delighted to have OCCAC back at the centre as one of our valued tenants. Their open day was a perfect reflection of the rich culture and community spirit they bring to East Oxford. This Saturday 13th June, Oxfordshire Chinese Community & Advice Centre (OCCAC) celebrate both their 35th anniversary and move into the newly refurbished East Oxford Community Centre 🎉🎊

The event begins at 3.30PM with workshops and cultural activities:

▫️Crochet
▫️Chinese calligraphy
▫️Traditional paper-cutting
▫️Lion dance workshop

At 4PM the opening ceremony will take place in front of the centre with the traditional eye-dotting of the lion 🐲, followed by a lion dance and ribbon cutting. 🎀

The lion dance ceremony is a traditional practice that brings good fortune and positive energy, marking a new beginning and a declaration of intention.

Join us in celebrating OCCAC!

The Oxfordshire Chinese Community & Advice Centre (OCCAC) is celebrating its 35th anniversary with dragon dancing and light refreshments.

This week's community spotlight is on the East Oxford Community Centre! We're so grateful to have them as part of our neighbourhood. They opened in February, and they host a range of community events, in addition to having rooms for private hire.
