Our The Big Issue have written a brilliant article on the issue of menstruation while homeless, an incredibly ignored problem due to the taboo of the subject matter - however this only makes it all the more important to talk about, as the issue still exists regardless of the stigma. 🙏

Those menstruating while experiencing homelessness face a host of issues surrounding this, and they deserve to have their needs met. This is why work such as the Women's Rough Sleeping Census is so vital - it shines a light on issues that may otherwise be forgotten, and gives us real data to better inform us on how to help. 💛 We're so proud to fund and facilitate Oxfordshire's part in WRSC, and continue our work into bettering local services for women, including working on a Women's Hub, funding qualitative research and improving outreach services.

There are many daily services available to people who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. These include food banks, free or affordable meals, clean clothes, showers & more. 🥐 ☕

📢 The wonderful HOHC group are opening their Christmas gift bag appeal again this winter! Hand-made drawstring bags are needed, as well as all the items to go inside the gift bags. These bags make such a difference to so many local people experiencing homelessness, especially during such a difficult time as the winter holidays. 🏠

HOHC have put together a handy Amazon wishlist linked below of the items they need to fill the bags, so if you are able to spare something for these it would be hugely appreciated. 🙏

If you're an avid sewist however, you may be best suited to helping sew the beautiful hand-made gift bags! 🪡🧶There is a tutorial PDF available in the HOHC group (you will need to join the Helping Oxfordshire Homeless Collaboration Facebook group to access it), and with 250 bags as the goal, as many bags as possible will be needed!

Really shocking data from our Crisis that 974 people lost their lives due to homelessness in 2025. So many preventable deaths, and possibly more lives lost but not counted properly. 💛

974 people died while homeless in England and Wales last year.

Behind these numbers are real people whose lives are being tragically cut short because of homelessness.

And what’s worse is that there may be many more. Research by the Museum of Homelessness suggests some local authorities have not been counting all the deaths in their areas.

This shameful suffering is inexcusable in the 21st century and further proof of why ending rough sleeping is so critical.

Homelessness is not inevitable. By working together, we can end homelessness for good.

A great article from our The Big Issue linked below on women's homelessness. 👇 Women's experiencing homelessness face additional challenges such as safety and hygiene issues, and this is why work like the Women's Rough Sleeping Census is so important, and why we continue to fund and co-ordinate Oxfordshire's part in it year after year. We know that the data the census gives us makes us able to provide better services for women experiencing homelessness, leading us to our qualitative research with LEAF, improving local outreach services, and working on a Women's Hub.

Emmaus Oxford is looking for a compassionate and motivated Progression Worker to join our team and help people overcome homelessness for good.

In this rewarding role, you’ll provide person-centred support to people living in our supported housing, helping them build confidence, develop independence and work towards their individual goals and future plans.

You’ll support people across areas including housing, health and wellbeing, finances, life skills and employment, while helping them progress towards independent living. 🏡✨

📍 Location: Oxford
⏰ Hours: 30 hours per week, with casual hours also available
💷 Pay: £26,000 per year (£32,000 pro rata) or £16.69 per hour for casual hours
📅 Shifts: Monday–Sunday, with a range of daytime and evening shifts
