Looking for ways to get involved in Black History Month?
From celebration and learning to reflection and conversation, there are lots of opportunities to engage with local events throughout October.
It’s not too late to take part, here are a few events happening locally over the next week at The Island Event - Fusion Arts on Park End Street

OACMA Arts are inviting all ages to join their OACMA Oxford’s Sip and Paint event at Fusion Arts, Park End Street on Saturday 24th October 1-5pm.
Enjoy a vibrant afternoon where brushes dance, laughter fills the air, and creativity knows no age limits – that's the pure magic of an intergenerational sip and paint event!

Did you know OACMA Arts group meets at Oxford Hub every Monday 1-3pm, next session 2nd November.

Also on 24th October 1-5pm at Fusion Arts, Oxford Caribbean Community Archives will be collecting stories from the Oxford Mapping as part of an ongoing research between Oxford Brookes and the African Caribbean community.

We’ve got lots of Halloween treats and goodies waiting for you, including:

🍬 Homemade sweet cones
🧙‍♀️ Fancy dress costumes for adults and children
🕸️ Halloween decorations
🎃 And lots, lots more!

♻️ SECOND HAND SEPTEMBER👚💚

What a month! Our free neighbourhood clothing rail has had an incredible 1,528 items taken during September — making it our busiest month yet! 🎉

That’s a whole lot of clothes, shoes and accessories being shared, reused and given a second life ✨

A huge thank you to everyone who donated, dropped items off, arranged a collection, browsed the rail or took something home. Every single contribution helps make a difference. 💚

And a very special thank you to Amber, who runs the Free Neighbourhood Clothing Rail and all of her wonderful volunteers. ❤️

The difference mentoring makes! A BBBS Story (Anonymised)

Alex was just 7 when he was matched with his Big Sibling. Having experienced the loss of a family member and instability at home, he was referred to our Big Brothers Big Sisters programme to have more opportunities to enjoy childhood.

Many years later, the pair's relationship is still going strong. Their time together has included weekly football training, matches, trying many new activities together and even exam preparation sessions at the library when required.

Through the ongoing small, regular moments, Alex has developed a trusting relationship with his mentor and grown in confidence. This is what long-term mentoring can do.

We're thrilled to share that, with the help of our community, we've met and passed our target for the Big Give this year.

All funds raised will go directly to Schools Plus, tackling Oxford's deep educational inequality through helping more young people in Oxford experience tutoring and extracurriculars.

The campaign is still open for another two hours - while your donation won't be doubled now we've hit our target, any contribution continues to help us towards our overall fundraising goals for the programme this year.
